Job description
Role overview
Serco is hiring a Housekeeper for Yarlswood IRC in Clapham, MK44 1FD. This is a full-time onsite position of 40 hours per week, with working hours from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm. The annual pay is £25,769 pro rata.
What the job involves
You will help keep the site clean, orderly, and safe by carrying out housekeeping and cleaning tasks across designated areas. The role can involve working alone or alongside others to ensure bathrooms, bedrooms, offices, and other facilities are maintained to a high standard.
Daily work may include dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping in areas such as bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms, offices, medical rooms, corridors, storerooms, and other rooms on site. You may also wipe down desks, tables, walls, showers, toilets, doors, skirting boards, and other hard surfaces, as well as vacuum carpeted areas, treat stains, and empty and clean bins.
Safety and compliance
You are expected to follow environmental requirements, health and safety procedures, and all relevant laws. This includes using safety signs correctly while cleaning, handling cleaning chemicals and materials after training, and keeping paperwork accurate and up to date.
Required attributes
The role calls for strong teamwork, solid organisation, and good spoken and written English.
Vetting requirement
A vetting process may be completed before you start. Clearance can take up to 3 months, so the start date may depend on the outcome of that process.
Benefits and support
Serco offers a contributory pension of up to 6%, discounts with around 1,000 retailers, and a range of wellbeing support including an Employee Assistance Programme, Bupa Anytime HealthLine, a wellbeing app, 30% off at Serco-managed leisure centres, and 24/7 access to a virtual GP. The company also provides training and coaching opportunities for both professional and personal development.
About Serco
Serco delivers essential public services across sectors such as justice, immigration, defence, leisure, healthcare, transport, and citizen services. The organisation focuses on trust, care, innovation, and pride, and aims to provide opportunities for growth, internal mobility, and supportive teamwork.
Equal opportunity and application notes
Serco welcomes applications from diverse candidates and can make reasonable adjustments during interview and employment. Flexible working can be discussed. The company also supports fair access to employment for people with unspent criminal convictions, although some roles may be exempt depending on security requirements. For help with an application or to discuss convictions disclosure, candidates should contact the recruitment team directly by email.
