About the Role and Company
Irish Life, one of Ireland’s leading financial institutions with over 1.5 million customers, is seeking a Claims Assessor specialized in Income Protection. This full-time permanent position is based in County Dublin and follows a hybrid working model, combining remote and office-based work from our City Centre offices. This role is classified as a 'controlled function' under the Central Bank Reform Act 2010 Regulations 2011, requiring the successful candidate to meet Fitness and Probity standards with due diligence carried out by the company.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of income protection claims, including complex and high-value cases, ensuring consistent application of the company’s claims philosophy.
- Assess initial claims and determine necessary medical and financial documentation.
- Make informed decisions on claims upon receipt of all required evidence.
- Calculate and oversee claim benefit payments and ongoing claim management.
- Review active claims periodically to confirm ongoing eligibility under the disablement criteria.
- Explore rehabilitation opportunities for claimants to support their recovery and return to work.
- Develop and maintain advanced technical and medical knowledge applicable to claims assessing.
- Lead key team projects, contributing to service delivery improvements.
- Support team changes related to new product introductions, technology enhancements, and evolving regulatory standards.
- Identify and execute improvements in service quality and delivery.
- Serve as the primary contact for internal and external query resolution and provide expert input at meetings.
- Proactively build and manage stakeholder relationships to resolve case-related issues effectively.
- Monitor team activities, providing training and coaching to support team performance.
Candidate Profile
- Extensive experience in assessing income protection claims is essential.
- Strong analytical skills with sound decision-making capabilities.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and engage with diverse stakeholders.
- Highly organized with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks under tight deadlines and operate autonomously.
- Holds relevant professional qualifications linked to claims assessment.
- Demonstrates commercial awareness and a customer-focused approach.
- Shows a positive, solution-oriented mindset with reliable follow-through on commitments.
- Interest in ongoing developments in medical care and rehabilitation relevant to disability claims.
- Knowledge of risk, control, and regulatory frameworks pertinent to the role, ensuring appropriate control measures to mitigate risk.
- Qualified or grandfathered status under the Minimum Competency Code for Claims Assessing; grandfathered candidates must complete a Claims Diploma or equivalent qualification within an agreed timeframe after appointment.
