Civil Technician - Airport Infrastructure Projects

Role Overview

We are looking for a meticulous Civil Drafting Technician/Designer to aid in the planning, design, and execution of various airport infrastructure projects. This position involves the creation, coordination, and management of civil engineering drawings and design documents covering airside and landside developments such as runways, taxiways, aprons, roads, utilities, drainage, grading, and related infrastructure. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams including civil engineers, airport planners, utility engineers, and airfield specialists, the technician is essential to producing precise engineering drawings and models through all project phases from concept to construction.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and update civil engineering drawings and design documentation specifically for airport projects involving runways, taxiways, aprons, roads, utility corridors, drainage systems, and other infrastructure.
• Ensure drawings adhere to project requirements, internal standards, and industry best practices.
• Assist in developing airfield layout and geometric plans, marking layouts, grading plans, and airside infrastructure documentation to align with aviation standards.
• Create grading, contour, earthwork layouts, stormwater drainage plans, profiles, and sections, ensuring coherence with pavement designs and overall engineering plans.
• Design detailed underground and above-ground utility layouts covering systems such as water supply, sewerage, electrical ducts, communication lines, and fuel infrastructure, coordinating with other disciplines to prevent conflicts.
• Develop accurate pavement drawings for airfield and landside areas, including construction and rehabilitation details.
• Maintain and update CAD drawings and BIM models per project digital delivery guidelines, supporting model coordination and ensuring design consistency throughout the project.
• Collaborate closely with civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, ICT, and utility teams to coordinate design interfaces and resolve drawing discrepancies.
• Conduct thorough drawing reviews and quality control checks to maintain accuracy and compliance with standards.
• Manage document control, maintain drawing registers and revision histories to ensure use of current approved drawings.
• Support preparation of construction drawings, as-built documents, and respond to design queries during the build phase.
• Integrate survey data, GIS information, and existing site infrastructure into project documentation accurately.
• Contribute to improvements in drafting standards, CAD and BIM practices, and implement innovative digital tools to enhance project delivery.

Candidate Profile

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, or equivalent diploma/certification in drafting or civil engineering trades.
• Over 5 years of relevant drafting experience, preferably in airport-related projects.
• Highly proficient with Autodesk AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Knowledge of OpenRoads Designer, Infraworks, ArcGIS, and QGIS is advantageous.
• Experience handling survey data formats, point clouds, LiDAR, and GIS databases.
• Familiarity with ICAO standards for airport infrastructure.
• Expertise in utility layout coordination including underground services.
• Experienced in BIM workflows and digital data management.
• Previous work on UK, Middle East, or international aviation infrastructure projects preferred.
• Ability to operate independently and collaboratively within BIM teams.
• Working knowledge of ACC/ProjectWise, Navisworks, and clash detection processes.
• Exposure to scripting or automation tools such as Dynamo or Lisp is a plus.
