Job description

About the Role and Organization

The City of Bonn, with roughly 347,000 inhabitants, serves as home to numerous international and scientific institutions, federal ministries, and well-known universities, alongside global companies. As a result, there is strong demand for quality residential spaces and significant pressure on commercial real estate markets. This creates a challenge for urban planning to ensure environmentally and socially sustainable settlement development amid growth and limited space, guided primarily by promoting inner-city development.

The City Planning Office of Bonn oversees comprehensive urban development including district and neighborhood planning, drafting of land-use plans, managing development projects, and traffic planning. Within this office, the Department of Urban Development and Regional Cooperation focuses on various spatial and sectoral urban development themes, aiming to maintain and improve Bonn's quality of life. This team comprises around 15 professionals with diverse expertise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of the Bonn Building Potential Register (B²PR), a tool supporting administrative and external stakeholders, including regular updates, evaluations, and coordinating meetings.
  • Coordinate and administratively support the development of a land-use plan for renewable energies, working alongside external service providers and engaging in related dialogue processes.
  • Manage and synchronize project activities related to the Climate Action Plan implementation within the City Planning Office and collaborate with other departments on related tasks.

Candidate Profile

  • Possess a completed Bachelor’s degree in urban and regional planning, economics, public management, or a related field.
  • Have extensive experience working with digital spatial registers.
  • Hold professional experience within municipal administration.
  • Be familiar with facilitating and guiding stakeholder dialogue processes.
  • Have knowledge of public procurement law and contract management.
  • Demonstrate strong project management skills, especially in public sector environments.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office and geospatial data processing.
  • Exhibit independence, proactive attitude, flexibility, and solution-oriented thinking.
  • Show strong communication, organizational, and cooperation abilities, along with confident demeanor and verbal and written expression skills.
  • Be motivated to contribute actively to the Bonn Climate Action Plan.

Employment Details & Commitment to Diversity

This full-time position is available, with part-time employment considered. The City of Bonn values a diverse workforce and promotes equal opportunity regardless of ethnicity, culture, age, disability, religion, sexual orientation, or gender identity. Applications from migrants and persons with disabilities are especially welcomed.

Benefits

  • Meaningful work contributing to public welfare with a secure employment.
  • A modern personnel development framework offering extensive training opportunities.
  • Flexible working hours and part-time options.
  • Eligibility for a bicycle leasing program after probation for permanent employees.
  • Access to health management programs and attractive supplementary pensions.
  • Regular increases aligned with collective wage agreements.
  • Options for mobile work, including under certain conditions from EU/EEA/Switzerland after initial onboarding.
  • Access to a corporate fitness partnership with Urban Sports for diverse sport and wellness activities.
  • Exclusive discounts on leisure, shopping, travel, and more through a benefits platform.

Application Guidelines

Applications must be submitted exclusively online through the City of Bonn’s career portal. Documents required include a cover letter, CV, university diploma, and any relevant training or work certificates. Queries about the role can be directed to Katharina Klemmt at the City Planning Office, and application process questions to Andreas Dickmann at the Personnel and Organization Office. The deadline for applications is August 30, 2026.
