Child & Online Safety Expert

Role overview

This contract opportunity is for a remote Child & Online Safety Expert supporting digital child safety and youth mental-health protection initiatives. The work centers on building evaluation standards, response frameworks, and content-safety guidance for sensitive online scenarios involving minors.

The engagement is estimated at 10–40 hours per week and offers compensation in the range of $50 to $90 per hour.

Key responsibilities

• Build detailed classification systems for sensitive topics such as self-harm, suicide prevention, eating disorders, and emotional dependence within digital spaces.
• Set evidence-based standards for online support and clinical safety for adolescents and young people.
• Develop review systems to detect, label, and assess potentially harmful online material and advice related to mental-health crises affecting minors.
• Create and improve clinical decision rubrics and escalation steps for people at elevated risk in digital environments.
• Work with project leadership to make sure evaluation criteria and guidelines align with current research and accepted clinical practice.
• Contribute subject-matter guidance on CSAM-adjacent policy areas and online exploitation patterns to strengthen child-safety safeguards.
• Provide concise, practical written and spoken feedback that helps shape AI safety tools and related frameworks.

Requirements

• Substantial experience in adolescent mental health, suicide intervention, eating-disorder support, or a closely related specialty.
• Current licensure or professional standing as a therapist, psychiatrist, clinician, or other mental-health practitioner with direct crisis-care exposure.
• Proven ability to assess clinical risk and respond appropriately in online or digital settings.
• Advanced education, relevant specialist certification, or comparable hands-on experience in mental health or child-safety work.
• Background in evaluating or applying CSAM-adjacent policies, or participation in initiatives focused on preventing child online exploitation.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex ideas clearly to varied audiences.
