Role overview
This contract role is for a remote Child & Online Safety Expert who will help shape safety systems for youth-focused digital environments. The work centers on clinical risk, crisis response, and policy guidance for vulnerable minors, with a strong emphasis on current research and practical safeguards.
Compensation is set at $50 to $90 per hour, and the expected commitment is 10 to 40 hours each week.
Core responsibilities
- Create structured taxonomies covering self-harm, suicide prevention, eating disorders, and emotional dependency as they appear in online settings.
- Define standards for safe digital support and clinical protection for adolescents and young people.
- Build and improve systems that can detect, flag, and assess harmful online advice or content connected to mental-health crises affecting minors.
- Develop clinical decision rubrics and escalation pathways for people who may be at risk in digital spaces.
- Work with project leaders to ensure evaluation criteria and guidelines reflect the latest research and established clinical practice.
- Contribute expertise on CSAM-adjacent policy matters and online exploitation patterns to strengthen child-safety protections.
- Provide precise written and spoken feedback that informs the evolution of AI safety tools and related frameworks.
Required background
- Substantial experience in adolescent mental health, suicide prevention, eating-disorder intervention, or a closely related area.
- Current or prior licensure as a therapist, psychiatrist, clinician, or mental-health practitioner with hands-on crisis-care experience.
- Proven ability to assess clinical risk and respond effectively in online or digital environments.
- Advanced education, a relevant specialist certification, or comparable operational experience in mental-health or child-safety work.
- Exposure to CSAM-adjacent policy work or child online exploitation prevention initiatives is important.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex ideas clearly to different audiences.
