Child Nutrition Worker

Position Overview

The Child Nutrition Worker role involves assisting in the preparation and serving of nutritious meals to both students and staff at Simpson Central Elementary School. This classified position reports directly to the Child Nutrition Director, Field Manager, or their designee.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain punctual and consistent attendance.
• Ensure proper storage of food and supplies to guarantee freshness and safety.
• Prepare assigned food items efficiently.
• Set up serving lines, present food attractively, and serve meals to students.
• Portion food and package meals for distribution to other locations if required.
• Manage dishwashing areas as assigned.
• Clear used dishes from preparation and serving areas, clean counters, tables, and kitchen space including sweeping and mopping as directed.
• Wash, scrape, and store pots, pans, trays, and kitchen utensils properly.
• Dispose of trash in designated areas maintaining sanitary conditions.
• Clean refrigerators, freezers, storage rooms, food service equipment, and serving lines on both daily and annual schedules.
• Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Child Nutrition Manager.
• Adhere to district and state Child Nutrition policies under the guidance of management.
• Serve as a cashier when necessary.
• Report all food/supply requirements and any concerns related to staff or students immediately to the Child Nutrition Manager.
• Attend daily briefings with the Child Nutrition Manager regarding special assignments or duties.
• Engage in annual professional development to meet assigned Professional Standards.
• Understand that transfers within the district may occur at the discretion of administrative officials.
• Support the core beliefs and mission of the Simpson County School District.

Physical Demands and Working Environment

This role requires verbal communication and attentive listening over extended periods. The worker must be capable of sitting or standing for long hours and perform regular physical movements such as handling objects, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Lifting and moving items up to 20 pounds frequently and occasionally up to 30 pounds is necessary. Visual acuity including close, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment is required. The position demands mental and emotional stamina to competently perform duties including data evaluation, problem-solving, and decision-making.

Terms of Employment and Compensation

The position follows an 184-day work calendar. Pay ranges from $11.00 to $22.36 per hour. Performance evaluations will be conducted in alignment with Simpson County Board of Education policies for professional staff.
