Job description
Position summary
The Chief of Staff works directly with the CEO and acts as a trusted strategic partner. The role turns the CEO’s priorities into concrete action across the business, coordinating with commercial, trade, operations, finance, and IT teams. It is responsible for advancing key initiatives, strengthening executive decision-making with sharp analysis and dependable follow-through, and keeping important projects moving with clear ownership and accountability. This position calls for strong business judgment, discretion, and the ability to perform in a fast-moving, operationally complex environment.
Key responsibilities
- Work closely with the CEO to define, prioritize, and monitor the company’s strategic agenda and major business initiatives.
- Coordinate enterprise-wide planning and execution, ensuring departments stay aligned and deliver outcomes on schedule.
- Support leadership meetings, quarterly business reviews, annual planning cycles, and follow-up on decisions and action items.
- Draft executive briefings, presentations, talking points, and decision papers for board meetings, investor conversations, customer meetings, and internal leadership forums.
- Track progress on strategic and operational workstreams, surface risks or delays, and push accountability with senior leaders.
- Assist the CEO in assessing business performance by turning financial, operational, commercial, and customer information into clear insights and recommendations.
- Coordinate CEO-sponsored special projects, including transformation programs, organizational changes, market-entry efforts, and significant customer or partnership opportunities.
- Serve as a connector across the executive team to improve communication, clarify priorities, and support consistent execution.
- Represent the CEO in selected meetings and internal working groups, ensuring follow-through and escalation when required.
- Help develop internal communications that reinforce strategic direction, performance standards, and organizational alignment.
- Keep track of shipping-industry topics such as service reliability, network efficiency, port operations, fleet utilization, safety, regulatory compliance, and customer experience.
- Protect confidentiality and use strong judgment when handling sensitive personnel, financial, legal, and commercial matters.
Ideal candidate
The preferred candidate holds an MBA or an equivalent qualification and brings 8+ years of relevant experience in strategy, operations, management consulting, or an executive-office role within shipping, logistics, airlines, or a related industry. The role suits someone who has managed cross-functional work and influenced senior stakeholders without direct authority. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, excellent communication skills, and the confidence to prepare executive-level presentations are essential. The person should also be highly organized, skilled in prioritizing work, comfortable in an international setting, and able to operate with discretion and professionalism in a fast-paced environment where priorities can shift quickly. Strong digital fluency, including comfort with workplace technology, productivity tools, and AI, is also important. Experience in shipping, airlines, or logistics is an advantage, but not mandatory.
Additional information
This is a high-trust position that requires sound judgment, discretion, strong business acumen, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, operationally complex industry. The successful candidate should be comfortable handling changing priorities and maintaining momentum on critical work across multiple functions.
