Job description
About the opportunity
BackOps is building a new operating model for modern operations teams. The company is growing rapidly, moving into additional enterprise segments, and developing several significant capabilities that have not yet been announced publicly. With that growth, the internal operating structure needs to catch up, and the business is now prioritizing someone who can help build that foundation.
This opening is for a Chief of Staff who will work directly with the CEO. The person in this seat will help create the systems the company relies on, take ownership of critical operational details, and gradually evolve into a strategic partner as the organization matures.
The role is best suited to someone who enjoys bringing order to complexity, likes taking ownership early, and has the potential to grow into more senior strategic responsibilities over time.
Role overview
In this position, you will serve as the CEO’s close partner and a multiplier across the company. Early responsibilities will center on building the operational base that has not yet been fully established, starting with billing and core internal systems. As trust and scope grow, the role expands into financial analysis, board preparation, and strategic partnership.
This is a hands-on position with significant responsibility. At the beginning, the focus will be on operations and cleanup. Over time, it will shift toward strategy, finance, and functioning as a true extension of the CEO. You will collaborate directly with the founders and be exposed to nearly every part of the business, with a direct influence on how key decisions are made.
Key responsibilities
- Design and improve the internal processes and systems that keep the organization running smoothly as it scales.
- Lead operational initiatives from start to finish, including office setup, vendor coordination, and logistics.
- Support the CEO’s operating rhythm and manage day-to-day administrative workflows for the business.
- Prepare board presentations, investor-facing materials, and financial models as the role broadens.
- Work with the CEO on strategic priorities and own complex, high-impact problems that do not have a clear playbook.
- Build the tools, data flows, and operating processes needed for disciplined execution at scale.
What the company is looking for
The ideal candidate brings 5 to 7 years of experience in a demanding environment such as operations, consulting, banking, or a high-growth startup. The company is looking for someone who has helped create something from the beginning, whether that was a process, a function, or a small operating setup.
Strong organization, comfort with ambiguity, and the ability to work without a predefined framework are important. The role also requires solid analytical ability, including the capacity to build clear financial models and polished presentations, or the ability to develop those skills quickly.
Strong business writing and speaking skills are needed, along with the confidence to contribute credibly in conversations with investors and board members. The right person will have a builder mindset, a willingness to stay close to the details, and a low-ego, high-ownership approach to work.
