Role Summary
The Chief of Staff in the CEO Office serves as a trusted strategic advisor and operational ally to the CEO, focusing the CEO’s attention on critical priorities that foster continued growth and long-term success. Acting as an extension of the CEO, this role ensures strategic goals translate into actionable plans, drives execution across key initiatives, and promotes alignment within the senior leadership team.
This role covers a broad spectrum including strategy, operations, communications, governance, stakeholder relations, and employee engagement. It works closely with the CEO, senior leadership, parent-company stakeholders, and external partners to advance enterprise goals and ensure accountable follow-through on important business matters.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage the CEO’s workflow to prioritize their time on high-impact matters, directing inquiries and tasks appropriately with timely follow-up.
- Prepare comprehensive briefing materials, talking points, and decision aids for CEO meetings, and represent or accompany the CEO when necessary.
- Serve as a strategic advisor on artificial intelligence, identifying trends and opportunities, and lead AI-related initiatives to enhance business innovation and performance.
- Oversee strategic projects and initiatives from inception to delivery, ensuring clarity of objectives and measurable outcomes.
- Draft and maintain the CEO’s voice in communications such as presentations, speeches, press quotes, executive correspondence, and internal messaging.
- Coordinate CEO engagements and nurture important relationships with government, industry, academia, community groups, and other external stakeholders.
- Drive leadership team cohesion by managing meeting agendas, materials, and follow-through, as well as overseeing the company’s operating rhythm including business reviews, KPI tracking, and initiative monitoring.
- Spot organizational gaps and propose practical solutions in areas like staffing, structure, culture, and operating processes.
- Lead annual corporate strategic planning, including retreats and material preparation.
- Manage board and parent-company communications, prepare board meeting materials, and align cross-enterprise strategic initiatives and reporting.
- Implement employee communication and engagement strategies to support cultural development and organizational alignment, including organizing events and managing the charitable foundation’s governance and operations.
Qualifications
- Over 10 years of progressive experience in Chief of Staff roles, corporate strategy, management consulting, corporate development, business transformation, executive leadership, or senior operational positions within complex organizations.
- Undergraduate degree required; preferred fields include business, strategy, or communications.
- Experience in retail, grocery, consumer goods, or multi-unit operations is highly valued.
- Proficiency in English and Mandarin or Cantonese is a significant advantage.
- Demonstrated fluency and strategic application of AI, with a track record in AI-driven transformation efforts.
- Strong strategic insight, business judgment, and financial literacy, capable of navigating a large matrixed organization and anticipating leadership needs.
- Exceptional communication skills, adept at writing in an executive's voice tailored to diverse audiences such as internal teams, external stakeholders, board members, and employees.
- Proven leadership capabilities with experience managing and developing high-performing teams.
- Highly analytical, skilled at structured problem-solving, project management, and delivering under tight deadlines.
- Excellent relationship-building and influence skills to collaborate effectively across all organizational levels and external partners.
- Experience working cross-functionally in areas like finance, operations, merchandising, marketing, HR, technology, supply chain, and retail operations.
- Adaptability and resilience to thrive amid ambiguity while balancing strategic and tactical priorities.
- Integrity, sound judgment, and discretion in managing confidential and sensitive information.
Compensation
The salary ranges from $130,000 to $160,000 annually, complemented by a performance-based bonus component.
