About the Company
Sellside Group is a global mergers and acquisitions advisory firm serving lower middle market and middle market businesses. The firm focuses on both sell-side and buy-side representation and combines the perspective of more than 50 Managing Directors, each of whom has held a C-level role and personally bought, built, or sold a company. Supported by a team of 200+ professionals across business development, finance, and operations, the company is fully distributed and built around collaboration, support, and shared success.
Role Summary
Sellside Group is looking for an accomplished finance leader to become its first Chief Financial Officer. This role offers the chance to shape the finance function of a fast-growing, operator-led M&A advisory firm, create the department’s operating model, define standards, and contribute directly to the success of client transactions.
The CFO will manage the financial team, create consistent firmwide processes, and act as the lead financial authority on every sell-side and buy-side assignment from engagement kickoff through closing.
Primary Client-Facing Responsibilities
- Own the financial workstream for all active sell-side mandates and work closely with clients and deal teams throughout the full engagement lifecycle.
- Prepare companies for market by structuring and organizing the data room, developing financial models and support materials, and helping ensure the client’s financials are clean, defensible, and ready for quality of earnings review while also contributing content to the Confidential Information Memorandum.
- During the marketing phase, update financial models as new reporting periods come in and support buyer calls as the main financial representative alongside the deal team.
- Through diligence, guide business owners on financial responses and supporting materials to help move transactions to a successful and efficient close.
Team Building and Internal Ownership
- Take direct responsibility for an existing team member from day one and expand the department over time in partnership with the CEO and COO as deal volume and budget allow.
- Create standardized financial templates, quality assurance checks, and client intake workflows that can be applied consistently across mandates and industry verticals.
- Serve as the firm’s financial benchmark, ensuring each deliverable meets the company’s quality expectations regardless of team or deal size.
Additional Responsibilities
- Support internal financial operations for the firm as it grows, with the scope of the role broadening as the department develops.
- Provide buy-side support when needed by analyzing seller financials for clients and offering an independent view to inform valuation and acquisition decisions.
Qualifications
- Bring at least 10 years of relevant experience in private equity, investment banking, or quality of earnings.
- Have worked across a broad range of industries and business models; experience in the company’s nine verticals is strongly preferred.
- Prior leadership or management experience is strongly preferred.
- Have practical experience with data room setup, financial diligence, financial modeling, and preparing materials for investors or buyers.
- Understand cash and accrual accounting, percentage of completion, work-in-progress, EBITDA, and EBITDA normalization at a deep level.
- Be highly proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, Google Sheets, and Google Slides, including the creation of charts, tables, and polished presentation visuals.
- Be able to turn complex financial information into concise, actionable insights.
- Communicate exceptionally well in both written and verbal formats.
- Present confidently in front of clients, business owners, private equity firms, and sophisticated buyers.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams while also stepping in with authority when needed.
- Be based in the United States.
- Be available for a full-time, fully remote role with occasional client travel of up to 20%.
- Be able to collaborate across time zones as part of a globally distributed organization.
Compensation and Benefits
- Base pay is competitive and includes eligibility for a performance-based bonus.
- 401(k) plan with company matching.
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
- Flexible vacation and travel policy.
- 100% remote work setup.
