Job description
Role overview
RealTime eClinical Solutions is seeking a Chief Financial Officer based in the United States to report directly to the CEO and work closely with the Board of Directors and executive leadership. This senior leader will oversee accounting, financial forecasting, budgeting, treasury, and Human Resources while helping shape the company’s growth strategy, including mergers and acquisitions.
The CFO will inherit an established finance function, but the role also calls for building and strengthening the organization over time, including hiring strong performers when needed. The company operates a comprehensive eClinical platform for global clinical trials and serves research sites, site networks, academic medical centers, sponsors, and CROs.
Key responsibilities
This position combines strategic finance leadership with hands-on operational ownership across the business.
- Measure company performance against the annual budget and the longer-term strategic plan.
- Create financial models, dashboards, systems, and analytics that give the CEO, Board, and executive team clear operational insight and practical recommendations.
- Lead long-range planning and cost control efforts in line with the company’s strategy, including potential acquisition activity.
- Review, evaluate, and integrate acquisitions, with a strong focus on financial reporting and internal controls.
- Work with the Board on leverage decisions, M&A opportunities, exit planning, and valuation analysis.
- Hire and oversee external auditors.
- Own the budgeting and forecasting cycle, including monthly P&L review versus budget, 13-week cash flow forecasting, revenue and profit tracking, and debt oversight.
- Build and maintain reporting packages, dashboards, and KPI metrics for the Board.
- Lead analysis for major business initiatives and special projects.
- Manage cash, liquidity, and assets, while directing financing strategy and banking relationships.
- Partner with the executive team on pricing strategy so cost increases are reflected appropriately in pricing.
- Develop a practical approach to using AI within the finance function.
- Direct the accounting team to ensure systems and accounting operations remain accurate and well maintained, including effective supervision of the Controller.
- Ensure financial systems and technology infrastructure can scale with continued growth.
- Lead acquisition integration, including alignment of reporting, accounting systems, and internal controls.
- Support executive leadership in delivering key business objectives, including M&A.
- Guide and grow the finance organization over time and recruit high-potential talent when required.
- As Human Resources reports to this role, provide oversight to HR-related functions as part of the broader operating leadership remit.
Candidate profile and qualifications
The ideal candidate will have helped drive both organic and acquisition-led growth in a software or tech-enabled business with recurring revenue. Experience in a private equity-backed environment is important, especially where disciplined processes, financial rigor, and best practices were introduced and scaled.
- Likely to have started in audit at a respected firm and progressed to at least 12 years of financial management and operational experience.
- Experience in a fast-growing software or health tech company is strongly preferred.
- Strong command of GAAP, financial reporting, audit, cash management, and tax matters.
- Current or recent experience as CFO of a private equity-backed lower-middle-market or middle-market company with at least $20M in revenue is preferred.
- Deep familiarity with software or tech-enabled businesses that generate recurring revenue, ideally with international exposure or a global customer base.
- Health tech or clinical research technology experience is strongly preferred.
- Broad finance background across FP&A, revenue recognition, and tax, with a history of building systems and processes that improve accountability and reporting.
- Operations-oriented mindset is an advantage.
- Comfort with financial systems and technology implementation that supports scale.
- Prior work in a PE-backed environment is required.
- Buy-side and sell-side transaction experience is strongly preferred.
- Seasoned, strategic, and known as a reliable operational partner to the CEO and Board.
- Strong analytical memory and the ability to translate data accurately into KPIs and management reporting.
- Entrepreneurial and comfortable operating in a fast-changing private equity environment.
- Capable of leading transformation while instilling and reinforcing best practices.
- Direct, candid communicator who can advocate for the strongest idea.
- Comfortable working with a global customer base and the financial and operational complexity that comes with it.
