Role Overview
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key leader partnering closely with the President to guide the strategic and operational financial decisions shaping the company’s future. The CFO directs all financial strategy, stewardship, and performance to foster safe, profitable growth. This executive steers all areas of finance, accounting, treasury, and risk management while collaborating with Operations, Pre-Construction, and Business Development to safeguard and enhance project margins. The CFO manages a team of about 25 finance and accounting professionals and reports directly to the President.
Key Responsibilities
- Craft and implement financial strategies supporting safe, profitable growth that align with long-term company and parent objectives.
- Provide strategic financial advice to executive leadership on capital allocation, investments, and enterprise risk.
- Drive accountability for financial outcomes across all organizational levels, ensuring ownership and understanding of results.
- Represent the company’s financial status to the parent enterprise and stakeholders.
- Manage accurate forecasting processes for revenue, margin, and cash, enhancing reliability and consistency.
- Create and uphold executive reporting tools featuring clear, timely KPIs and dashboards for leadership.
- Lead annual budgeting and continual forecasting aligning project and consolidated financial plans.
- Conduct monthly and quarterly financial performance reviews with detailed variance, trends, and projections.
- Oversee cash management, liquidity planning, and working capital efficiency including inventory and real estate considerations.
- Enforce billing and collections standards to protect cash flow, addressing aged receivables proactively.
- Guide payables management balancing supplier relations and cash flow targets.
- Collaborate on project pricing, risk assessments, and contract terms to secure and improve profit margins.
- Establish financial controls governing bidding, change orders, and project expenditures.
- Lead commercial risk reviews on major bids, joint ventures, and subcontracting arrangements.
- Monitor project financial health to detect margin risks early and initiate corrective measures.
- Manage credit risk through policies, exposure monitoring, and approval of credit terms for key customers.
- Set governance frameworks including policies, authority delegation, approval matrixes, and internal controls.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax laws, parent company standards, and all regulatory requirements.
- Manage relationships with external auditors and lead the audit processes.
- Oversee insurance and enterprise risk management in partnership with Legal and Operations.
- Lead, develop, and mentor the accounting and finance team to enhance performance and build succession plans.
- Align finance functions and resources with company growth and operational demands.
- Drive finance system modernization, including ERP and automation initiatives to enhance efficiency and insight.
- Continuously improve financial processes to reduce manual efforts and shorten turnaround times.
- Evaluate and implement scalable technology solutions that improve enterprise decision making.
- Perform special projects and any additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related discipline required.
- At least 20 years of progressive senior financial leadership experience, predominantly within EPC, construction, or infrastructure sectors.
- Proven track record as a CFO or senior finance executive in fast-growing, project-focused, multi-location organizations.
- Expertise in project financial management, including percentage-of-completion accounting, costing, and contract risk assessment.
- Strong experience in cash flow management and working capital optimization.
- Background leading ERP implementations or significant system upgrades.
- Demonstrated ability to build and guide effective finance teams within dynamic, field-based operational contexts.
- Strategic mindset capable of translating financial data into actionable operational strategies.
- Excellent communication skills and presence to influence at all organizational levels.
- Integrity and sound judgment paired with collaborative leadership, accountability, and a drive for continuous improvement.

Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced qualifications such as MBA or CPA.
- Experience in electrical construction, power distribution, or energy infrastructure sectors.
- Knowledge of public company reporting requirements and governance.
