Role overview
Unusual Ventures is looking for a highly strategic, hands-on, and results-oriented Chief Executive Officer to steer a portfolio company’s strategy, growth path, and overall success. In this role, you will shape the company’s direction, strengthen business performance, assemble a capable leadership bench, and create lasting enterprise value.
About Unusual Ventures
Unusual Ventures invests from pre-seed through Series A in enterprise software startups. The firm focuses on helping founders move from initial insight to product-market fit, with a team of experienced operators who support across positioning, hiring, sales, and other core startup functions.
Key responsibilities
- Set and articulate the company’s long-term mission, vision, and strategic roadmap.
- Own enterprise growth, profitability, and expansion into new markets.
- Recruit, coach, and lead the senior leadership team, including leaders across technology, product, and sales.
- Make senior-level decisions involving operations, capital deployment, and strategic partnerships.
- Act as the company’s representative with investors, board members, customers, and other external parties.
- Drive fundraising, manage investor relationships, and oversee capital allocation.
- Maintain alignment across teams and functions so execution stays coordinated.
- Shape and reinforce the organization’s culture, values, and leadership standards.
- Track key performance indicators and ensure progress toward business objectives.
- Spot and pursue opportunities that improve innovation and competitive positioning.
Requirements
- At least 15 years of leadership experience, including prior executive-level responsibility.
- A strong history of growing a company or a business unit successfully.
- Broad commercial understanding across product, technology, and go-to-market areas.
- Direct experience with fundraising, investor communication, and board engagement.
- Clear evidence of leading strong, high-performing teams.
- Excellent communication, judgment, and leadership capability.
Preferred background
- Experience serving as a CEO or founder before.
- Background in fast-growing startups or similarly dynamic environments.
- Exposure to SaaS, AI/ML, or other technology-led businesses.
- MBA or an advanced degree in business or a technical field.
