Opportunity Overview

The organization is seeking a Chief Executive Officer to provide overall strategic, financial, and operational direction for an employee-owned Managed Service Provider. Reporting to the Board of Directors and ESOP Trustee, this leader will shape and implement the company’s business strategy, support steady growth, elevate client service, and reinforce an ownership-driven culture that strengthens engagement and long-term value for employee-owners.

This is a highly visible leadership role that requires working both internally and externally. The CEO will help expand the company’s market presence, grow a platform-based managed services model that can include new solution areas, and create strong alignment across the leadership team. The role calls for an energetic ambassador who can build trust, promote collaboration, and unify the business around a shared vision.

Compensation

Annual pay is listed at $265,000 to $300,000.

Strategic Leadership

  • Shape and carry out the long-range vision, growth plan, and market position for the company within the MSP and IT services space.
  • Explore and pursue new offerings, partnerships, and acquisition opportunities that support profitable expansion.
  • Make sure business strategy supports ESOP goals and long-term shareholder value.
  • Run the company as one connected platform, with strong coordination across functions and disciplined execution.
  • Set a leadership rhythm that brings clarity, accountability, and timely decisions.
  • Turn strategy into practical company-wide objectives, including annual planning and performance tracking.
  • Review the organizational structure and talent mix to confirm the team can deliver on strategy.

Financial & ESOP Stewardship

  • Own financial performance across revenue growth, EBITDA, and cash flow.
  • Hold full responsibility for the P&L while managing investment and operating costs to meet Board expectations.
  • Act as a steward of the ESOP, ensuring decisions protect long-term share value and business sustainability.
  • Work with the Board and ESOP Trustee on valuation, governance, and fiduciary matters.
  • Increase financial transparency and understanding across the organization.
  • Track performance, forecasts, client retention, and recruiting metrics, and respond quickly when adjustments are needed.

Operational Excellence

  • Oversee strong service delivery across core MSP areas such as Service Desk, NOC, Professional Services, Cybersecurity, and vCIO/account management.
  • Improve efficiency, scale, and consistency of the client experience.
  • Introduce process improvements that support durable growth.
  • Watch key metrics such as SLA adherence, client satisfaction, retention, and utilization.
  • Scale platform-based offerings with discipline around packaging, pricing, scope, and delivery.

Culture & Employee Ownership

  • Promote a culture of ownership, accountability, and shared success across the ESOP.
  • Strengthen employee engagement, recognition, and behaviors that reflect an ownership mindset.
  • Create an inclusive, open, and high-performing workplace rooted in company values.
  • Support leadership development and succession planning at every level.
  • Ensure recruiting, onboarding, performance management, and retention practices are effective.
  • Represent a strong workplace culture through visible, approachable leadership.

Client & Market Leadership

  • Act as a visible representative to clients, partners, and the broader market.
  • Maintain and deepen relationships with major clients and strategic accounts.
  • Position the company as a dependable IT advisor.
  • Build trust within partner ecosystems, industry groups, and market stakeholders.

Leadership & Governance

  • Recruit, develop, and guide a strong executive leadership team.
  • Provide oversight for all major business functions through capable leaders and effective systems.
  • Work closely with the Board of Directors and provide strategic updates and recommendations.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and cybersecurity requirements.
  • Create accountability systems that support execution without excessive micromanagement.
  • Keep the solution portfolio focused and scalable while still supporting innovation in areas such as AI, compliance, and data services.

First-Year Priorities

  • Build a strong external presence in the company’s market and industry network.
  • Put a clear leadership operating cadence in place to improve alignment and execution.
  • Scale the platform-based service model with structure and discipline.
  • Define the portfolio clearly by separating core offerings, scalable offerings, and experimental initiatives.
  • Strengthen the leadership bench and succession planning.
  • Develop a transparent, productive working relationship with the Board and ESOP Trustee.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree is required; a degree in business, finance, or a related field is preferred.
  • An MBA or other advanced degree is preferred.
  • At least 10 years of progressive executive leadership experience in MSP, IT services, or technology-led organizations.
  • Demonstrated success scaling service-based businesses and generating profitable growth.
  • Experience in, or close to, an ESOP or employee-owned organization is strongly preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong grasp of MSP operations and recurring revenue models.
  • Solid financial judgment with full P&L responsibility.
  • Ability to read financial information and make decisions based on KPIs.
  • Awareness of ESOP structures and value drivers is preferred.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
