Job description
About the Company
Banyan Software serves as a long-term owner for software businesses that support specialized industries, their workforces, and their customers. The company’s focus is on acquiring, strengthening, and scaling strong businesses globally, with an emphasis on modernization powered by shared AI capability and disciplined operations. Banyan Software Foundation, backed by $100 million in Banyan stock, supports efforts to use technology for a cleaner and fairer world. Banyan is Great Place to Work Certified, has appeared five times on the Inc. 5000 list, and ranks among the top 10 on Deloitte’s Technology Fast 500. Established in 2016 and based in Atlanta, it now includes more than 100 portfolio companies across North America, the UK, the EU, and APAC.
About the Business
Star Media Enterprises is a long-established provider of audience measurement software and ratings data for the ad-supported television sector. Its multi-product platform, including StarTrak, StarEstimator, StarPost, WARP, and MultiTrak, supports broadcast and cable networks in research, sales, and stewardship decisions. The business handles daily data from Nielsen, Comscore, and VideoAmp, includes evaluation systems for iSpot and Vizio/Inscape, and its flagship StarTrak system is used by most ad-supported television networks that receive national overnight ratings. Star Media is part of Banyan Software’s portfolio of permanent software businesses.
The Opportunity
This role offers the chance to guide a respected, multi-decade market leader into its next phase of growth. Star Media sits at the center of a critical data ecosystem for cable and broadcast networks, and the incoming CEO will help modernize how the company presents, prices, and packages its products while protecting the confidence it has built with major media customers.
There is meaningful room to grow within the existing customer base, reposition a mature product portfolio, and apply AI to the way audience data is processed, presented, and licensed. The ideal leader is commercially strong, product-minded, and immediately credible within the network ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
- Set the company’s strategic direction and competitive response across cable, broadcast, and adjacent television buyers.
- Take full P&L responsibility and drive revenue growth through retention, expansion, pricing, and new customer acquisition within the network ecosystem.
- Act as the primary external representative for Star Media with research leaders, network customers, and industry peers.
- Spot and execute AI-led opportunities that reshape the product and create lasting competitive separation, including how Nielsen, Comscore, and VideoAmp data are processed, surfaced, and licensed.
- Guide the product roadmap at a strategic level across StarTrak, StarEstimator, StarPost, and WARP so the suite better matches the way modern research, sales, and stewardship teams operate.
- Work closely with the technology leader and engineering team to turn a refreshed product vision into a practical execution plan.
- Promote AI-first product thinking, identifying where automation, predictive insights, and intelligent workflows can create meaningful differentiation in audience measurement and ratings analytics.
- Build and lead a cohesive leadership team while preserving the institutional knowledge and customer relationships that have supported the business for more than three decades.
- Strengthen talent quality, clarify decision-making ownership, set execution rhythms, and establish accountability mechanisms that improve speed without weakening customer trust.
Qualifications
- Background as a product-led SaaS leader and commercial operator, with senior executive experience in a vertical SaaS business or a technical role within the industry.
- Proven ownership of P&L and operating results for a B2B SaaS organization, business unit, or media division function.
- Track record of building a repeatable go-to-market engine and scalable sales and expansion motions in a vertical or enterprise SaaS environment.
- Experience leading a company through a significant inflection point such as repositioning a product, redesigning pricing, or expanding into a new market before external pressure forced the change.
- History of improving net revenue retention and pricing strength in a measurable way, with durable margin improvement as a business outcome.
- Strong familiarity with the cable and broadcast network ecosystem, including the buyers, workflows, and economics of ad-supported television research, sales, and stewardship.
- Direct exposure to Nielsen, Comscore, VideoAmp, or similar audience measurement data is strongly preferred.
Why Banyan and Star Media
- A permanent home for the business rather than a short-term portfolio hold; Banyan buys, holds, and grows software companies for the long term.
- Freedom to invest in architecture, team design, delivery practices, and AI strategy without a three-to-five-year exit timeline.
- A collaborative, decentralized environment where the spirit of each company remains intact.
- A family-office-like approach that values vertical software expertise and respects what makes each business distinct.
- Commitment to preserving the brand, identity, and culture of acquired companies.
- Access to a peer network of portfolio leaders focused on modernization, AI adoption, team scaling, and working with acquired codebases.
Compensation
The expected base salary for this position is USD 240,000 to USD 275,000 per year, with an annual bonus and equity participation. Final pay may vary depending on market conditions, location, role-specific skills, and experience.
Equal Opportunity
Banyan is committed to providing equal employment opportunities and maintaining an inclusive workplace. Employment decisions are made without regard to protected characteristics such as race, color, genetic information, creed, national origin, religion, sex, affectional or sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, lawful alien status, ancestry, age, marital status, protected veteran status, or disability.
