Role Overview

The Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) is a senior executive tasked with directing commercial leadership, engaging capital markets, assisting strategic financial planning, and providing Board-level analysis. This position focuses on assessing commercial prospects, supporting corporate expansion strategies, optimizing capital deployment, and bolstering relationships with investors, analysts, financial institutions, and strategic partners.

Collaborating closely with the CEO, CFO, Board of Directors, and external advisors, the successful candidate will influence corporate strategy, evaluate funding options, facilitate capital market endeavors, and offer commercial insights to enhance long-term shareholder value. This role suits experienced commercial leaders with strong backgrounds in mining, natural resources, corporate finance, investment banking, corporate development, or capital markets.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Offer commercial guidance and strategic advice to senior management and the Board regarding corporate growth, capital allocation, partnerships, restructuring, and investment opportunities.
  • Lead commercial assessments of exploration projects, development initiatives, acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic deals.
  • Support budgeting by providing commercial assumptions, financial scenario analyses, and long-term planning inputs.
  • Develop and maintain financial models to evaluate funding needs, project economics, investment returns, and capital deployment strategies.
  • Perform scenario and sensitivity analyses related to commodity prices, timelines, operational outcomes, funding structures, and market conditions.
  • Facilitate debt, equity, and alternative funding efforts by preparing commercial analyses, investor materials, and transaction documents.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with institutional investors, investment banks, brokers, research analysts, and capital market participants.
  • Prepare investor presentations, Board materials, market updates, commercial reports, and strategic recommendations.
  • Monitor industry trends, market developments, peer performance, investor sentiment, and capital market activities to inform decision-making.
  • Work closely with finance, operations, technical, and corporate teams to align commercial strategies with operational execution.
  • Ensure all commercial communications and investor materials comply with regulatory and corporate governance standards.
  • Contribute to continuous improvements in commercial processes, capital planning, and strategic decision-making capabilities.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Business, or related fields.
  • Postgraduate or professional certifications like MBA, CA, CPA, CFA are highly preferred.
  • At least 12 years of experience in corporate development, investment banking, corporate finance, equities research, commercial leadership, strategy consulting, or similar areas.
  • Demonstrated background in mining, natural resources, metals, energy, or resource development industries.
  • Experience supporting executive teams, Boards, or publicly listed companies with strategic and commercial evaluations.
  • Proven involvement in capital raising, debt financing, restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, or strategic partnerships.
  • Deep understanding of corporate finance, valuation techniques, capital markets, project economics, and investment assessments.
  • Advanced skills in complex financial modeling and scenario/valuation frameworks.
  • Familiarity with public company governance, regulatory reporting, and investor relations best practices.
  • Expertise in preparing Board presentations, investment memoranda, market communications, and strategy documents.
  • Strong analytical abilities to translate complex financial and technical data into clear commercial insights.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, negotiation, and relationship development skills.
  • High integrity, sound commercial judgment, professionalism, and executive gravitas.
  • Capacity to manage competing demands effectively within dynamic environments.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
  • Proficiency in professional-level written and spoken English.

Additional Information

The position requires work in Sydney or Brisbane, Australia. The candidate should be prepared for both domestic and international travel.
