PRINTING United Alliance is a major national trade association for the graphic arts sector, representing an industry with roughly one million workers and supporting thousands of member organizations. Role Overview
The Chief Administrative Officer is a senior leadership position responsible for leading the organization’s core administrative and operational areas: Finance and Accounting, Human Resources, Information Technology, and Legal. The role is centered on operational excellence, financial responsibility, organizational effectiveness, and alignment with the strategic goals of PRINTING United Alliance.
The CAO works closely with the Chief Executive Officer and other senior leaders to improve performance, streamline internal operations, and support long-term growth across the Alliance’s programs, services, and member engagement efforts.
This is a remote role based in the United States, and the working schedule must align with Eastern Standard Time business hours.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the organization’s strategic and operational direction in partnership with the CEO and senior leadership team.
- Turn strategic priorities into practical operating plans and ensure coordination across departments.
- Advance organizational scalability, effectiveness, and ongoing process improvement.
- Oversee financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, controls, compliance, and risk management.
- Work with Finance leadership to support revenue growth, cost discipline, and long-term financial health.
- Guide HR strategy across recruiting, employee engagement, performance management, succession planning, and workplace culture.
- Promote an inclusive, high-performing, mission-aligned environment while ensuring employment-law compliance.
- Direct IT strategy to strengthen efficiency, security, infrastructure, enterprise systems, and digital transformation.
- Ensure technology investments and system capabilities support organizational goals and member needs.
- Oversee legal matters, contract management, and regulatory compliance.
- Partner with internal and external counsel to reduce risk and maintain adherence to applicable laws and standards.
- Track performance measures across departments and improve workflows and cross-functional collaboration.
- Identify and implement operational changes that increase efficiency and effectiveness.
- Coach, mentor, and develop senior leaders in Finance, HR, IT, and Legal.
- Build leadership depth and continuity while encouraging accountability, transparency, and results-oriented performance.
- Follow company policies and procedures and carry out other duties as assigned by the manager.
Qualifications
Applicants should bring strong senior-level leadership experience and the ability to oversee several corporate functions at once.
- A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related discipline is required; an MBA or another advanced degree is preferred.
- 10–15+ years of progressive leadership experience, including senior operational oversight.
- Direct experience managing multiple business functions such as Finance, Human Resources, IT, and Legal.
- Strong financial understanding, including budgeting and organizational planning.
- Proven success leading complex organizations and driving operational change.
- Preferred experience in associations, nonprofit organizations, or member-focused industries.
- Helpful background in printing, manufacturing, or related sectors.
- Experience working with boards of directors and governance frameworks is preferred.
- Strong capabilities in strategic execution, operational leadership, financial and business judgment, change management, communication, stakeholder engagement, integrity, and sound decision-making.
