Chemistry Quality Assurance Lead

Role Overview

This is a remote contractor position focused on chemistry quality assurance. You will lead quality checks across chemistry AI training work, making sure outputs are scientifically sound, consistent, and aligned with project standards. The work involves reviewing AI-generated chemistry content as well as trainer and QA contributions, then providing clear written feedback to improve overall quality.

You will assess work for scientific accuracy, chemical reasoning, correct calculations, reaction logic, unit usage, safety considerations, clarity, formatting, and adherence to project rubrics. In addition to reviewing output, you will identify repeated quality problems, share updates with trainers and QAs, support onboarding, maintain documentation, and help reactivate contributors who have become inactive.

This role sits within a fast-growing AI data services company that supplies training data to some of the world’s largest AI companies and foundation model labs. Your work will help improve chemistry performance in AI systems by ensuring the training data is accurate, logically consistent, well explained, safety-aware, and aligned with client expectations. There is no active project immediately available for this role, but qualified candidates may be contacted first when suitable work opens up and may also gain access to future opportunities through the expert network.

Responsibilities

• Review chemistry tasks regularly, identify quality gaps, and share feedback directly with contributors while escalating serious or repeated issues.
• Check AI-generated chemistry explanations, calculations, reaction pathways, laboratory reasoning, nomenclature, diagrams, and solution steps for scientific accuracy and readability.
• Keep trainers and QAs informed on workflow updates, project changes, and chemistry-specific quality expectations through Discord.
• Answer trainer and QA queries promptly, especially those involving formulas, units, reaction logic, mechanisms, terminology, and rubric interpretation.
• Reach out to inactive contributors, encourage reactivation, track follow-ups, and flag availability concerns when necessary.
• Build and update project documentation such as style guides, trackers, FAQs, calibration tasks, onboarding resources, quality notes, and example sets.
• Organize and deliver onboarding or training calls to explain expectations, workflows, standards, and review criteria.
• Ensure trainers and QAs apply the chemistry guidelines consistently as projects evolve.
• Identify unsafe, misleading, or overconfident chemistry advice, particularly where lab work, hazardous materials, health, dosing, or environmental safety are involved.
• Recommend process improvements and support the creation of scalable QA systems for chemistry training projects.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Sciences, Biochemistry, Materials Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, or a related discipline.
• Excellent English communication skills for reading instructions, writing feedback, and coordinating with remote teams.
• At least 3 years of experience in chemistry research, lab work, teaching, scientific writing, technical review, quality control, formulation, analytical chemistry, or similar work.
• Strong knowledge of core chemistry areas including general, organic, inorganic, physical, analytical, and biochemistry, along with thermodynamics, kinetics, equilibrium, stoichiometry, spectroscopy, and reaction mechanisms.
• Ability to assess chemistry content using detailed rubrics and catch flawed assumptions, calculation errors, missing units, unsafe suggestions, fabricated facts, incomplete reasoning, or weak scientific claims.
• Preferred familiarity with chemistry workflows and tools such as lab documentation, spectroscopy, chromatography, titration analysis, molecular structure interpretation, chemical nomenclature, safety data sheets, and literature review.
• Prior experience leading or supporting remote teams of trainers, annotators, reviewers, researchers, technical writers, educators, or QAs is strongly preferred.
• Comfort using collaboration and tracking tools such as Discord, Google Sheets, Google Docs, dashboards, trackers, and project management systems.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for managing guides, FAQs, trackers, honeypots, calibration tasks, and onboarding material.
• Experience with AI training, data annotation, LLM evaluation, prompt/response review, or scientific content QA is a strong advantage.

This role is hourly and remote. It is intended for contractors rather than a standard full-time onsite position. Candidates should note that there is no immediate project currently assigned, but suitable experts may be contacted for future opportunities.
