Position Overview
As a Casualty Underwriter at AIG, you will be responsible for communicating risk appetites and casualty value propositions to brokers, collaborating across distribution channels, and executing rapid evaluation of submissions. The role emphasizes identifying and cultivating cross-selling opportunities, negotiating terms and pricing, and cultivating robust, lasting relationships with brokers and clients to drive profitable business growth. Responsibilities also include mentoring junior underwriters, adhering to product guidelines for risk selection, and maintaining accurate file management.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Effectively communicate risk appetite and casualty value propositions to brokers.
- Collaborate with distribution and other underwriting lines to target and cross-sell desirable accounts.
- Swiftly assess, prioritize, and choose submissions appropriate for underwriting.
- Identify and develop cross-selling opportunities across AIG General Insurance products.
- Work closely with brokers to understand deal structures, terms, and tailor AIG services to client needs.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, conditions, and deal framework with brokers and clients.
- Engage in underwriting projects as required.
- Establish strong, long-lasting relationships with brokers and clients to grow a profitable book of business.
- Maintain risk selection compliant with product guidelines and meet rate, renewal retention, and new business objectives.
- Mentor and train less experienced underwriters.
- Deliver exemplary customer service to brokers and clients.
- Ensure timely completion of technical raters and maintain excellent file management.
Candidate Profile and Required Skills
- 3 to 5 years of experience in casualty insurance within insurance companies, agencies, or brokerages.
- Familiarity with underwriting large Self-Insured Retention (SIR) accounts is preferred.
- Progress towards insurance qualifications or exams.
- Proven track record in building and sustaining strong professional relationships.
- Demonstrated experience in sales, marketing, and relationship development.
- Excellent verbal and written communication capabilities.
- Highly driven, goal-oriented, and results-focused.
- Adaptability to a dynamic and fast-evolving work environment with an ability to collaborate widely for swift resolution delivery.
- Flexible attitude, eager to learn on the job with a proactive approach.
- Comfortable utilizing analytical tools and technologies.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel applications.
