About the Role

The Casualty Underwriter is responsible for marketing and underwriting profitable casualty insurance policies aligned with both local and divisional strategies. This role demands active engagement with brokers and corporate clients to drive growth, supported by thorough market insight and technical underwriting expertise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Achieve or surpass defined financial targets.
  • Proactively lead business development and marketing efforts independently with brokers and corporate clients.
  • Identify and pursue prospective client accounts and target market segments to increase profitable business.
  • Focus on expanding business within medium to large corporate accounts, leveraging SME experience as a base.
  • Manage renewal portfolios actively to increase wallet share and cross-sell additional solutions.
  • Work closely with colleagues in Finance, Property, and Specialty divisions to deliver integrated insurance solutions.
  • Take on supplementary projects and responsibilities supporting team and corporate goals.
  • Maintain a strong and visible presence in the market.
  • Report progress against business plans accurately and timely adhering to Swiss Re Corporate Solutions' frameworks.
  • Underwrite and execute casualty business profitably, ensuring all underwriting complies with authority limits and governance standards.
  • Maintain and apply extensive technical knowledge to grow portfolio profitably.
  • Deliver responsive and professional services to brokers and clients.
  • Collaborate with teams on the formulation and execution of business strategies.
  • Exhibit self-direction while contributing as a cooperative team member.
  • Develop and strengthen broker and client relationships to maximize business opportunities and foster long-term partnerships.
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of data in relevant pricing, information, and analysis systems.
  • Produce timely and precise documentation and quarterly portfolio reports.
  • Manage expenses within approved budgets and business expectations.

Candidate Profile

  • Minimum five years’ experience underwriting casualty lines.
  • Strong knowledge of market dynamics, competitor activities, and distribution channels.
  • Understanding of other commercial insurance classes and reinsurance products is advantageous.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing underwriting strategies that meet growth targets.
  • Excellent relationship management skills with brokers and clients.
  • Strong commercial acumen and business development focus.
  • Capable of building and sustaining profitable long-term client relationships.
  • Effective negotiation and decision-making capabilities.
  • Balanced expertise in underwriting, relationship management, and business growth.
  • Superior communication and stakeholder engagement skills across organizational levels.
  • Organized with disciplined time management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within teams.
  • High proficiency with digital tools.
  • Fluent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Relevant experience in insurance, reinsurance, or similar industries.
  • Possession of degree-level or higher qualifications is preferred.
  • Experience working in Southeast Asia, Hong Kong or China markets is a plus.
