Role overview
This position is responsible for overseeing the hospital case management workflow in an organised and efficient way. The role focuses on ensuring clear communication between all stakeholders and supplying precise, timely clinical information to help reduce financial exposure for the organisation.
Primary duties
- Coordinate patient care plans in a way that helps limit financial risk for the organisation.
- Maintain the quality and accuracy of clinical records and supporting documentation.
- Apply clinical expertise to insurance claim management, using sound medical justification and accepted clinical practice.
- Drive ongoing improvement in the standard of clinical documentation.
- Carry out concurrent and retrospective utilisation reviews to confirm medical necessity, appropriate level of care, and alignment with payer rules.
- Track patient length of stay and support timely discharge planning.
- Work with treating doctors and insurance teams to secure approvals, extensions, and documentation that supports medical necessity.
- Partner with physicians, coding, nursing, finance, and insurance stakeholders to ensure correct documentation, prompt payer communication, and optimal reimbursement while staying compliant with all regulatory and payer requirements.
Education and experience
Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree or diploma in nursing or medicine, or be a non-licensed physician. A preferred background includes a bachelor’s or master’s degree in healthcare management from a recognised institution, along with a clinical coding certificate such as CCS, CCA, CPC, or CPMA.
The role calls for at least 3 years of experience in a clinical, insurance, medical auditing, or coding position within a DRG billing environment in the UAE, including at least 1 year in UAE healthcare. Experience in theatre or ICU, with medical insurers/funders, in private healthcare, or as a paramedic is desirable.
Skills and knowledge
- Use of clinical coding systems
- Strong computer and MS Office proficiency
- Working knowledge of electronic health record platforms
- Understanding of healthcare revenue cycle and billing workflows
- Familiarity with ICD-10-CM, CPT, and DRG coding standards
- Knowledge of nursing processes and related procedures
- Experience with patient administration systems
- Understanding of patient flow and hospital service touchpoints
