Job description
About the opportunity
Wellways is seeking a community-focused Carer Hub Navigator to support carers in the Townsville region. This ongoing full-time role is part of a new Carer Hub model that combines community development and engagement to improve awareness of, and access to, Carer Gateway services. The position offers a consistent local presence and a practical, welcoming point of contact for carers seeking support.
You will work with a team to strengthen local connections with community organisations, health providers, schools, aged care providers and local government bodies so that carer supports are better embedded across the region. The service follows a “no wrong door” philosophy, with a strong focus on helping carers access the right support and feel connected, included and well supported.
The advertised pay rate is SCHADS Level 4B at $43.08 to $46.35 per hour, plus superannuation and salary packaging benefits.
Key focus areas
The role centres on building strong links between carers and community resources, helping carers navigate services, and supporting their wellbeing and independence. It also involves creating opportunities for social connection, belonging and participation through the Carer Hub environment.
What you will be doing
- Act as a welcoming first point of contact for carers using the hub and related supports.
- Connect carers with relevant community services and practical resources.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with local organisations and agencies.
- Support activities that promote wellbeing, inclusion and social connection.
- Work collaboratively to strengthen the visibility and accessibility of carer services in the local area.
- Apply a flexible, person-centred approach that prioritises each carer’s needs.
What you will bring
- Background working with family carers in mental health, alcohol and other drugs, or community support settings.
- A diploma or higher qualification in a relevant support area, or equivalent experience in the community sector.
- Strong computer and technology capability.
- Current driver’s licence.
- Right to work in Australia.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a satisfactory National Police Check within the last 12 months, a WWCC or QLD Blue Card, an NDIS Workers Screening Check or QLD Yellow Card, and the NDIS Worker Orientation Module certificate.
Application requirements
Applicants are asked to submit an up-to-date CV and a cover letter responding to the selection criteria. Your cover letter should address your experience and passion for community-based work, how you build relationships and networks, how you would create and run community programs, and how your skills align with Wellways’ mission and values.
