Job description
Overview
We offer roles requiring specialized knowledge and actively welcome individuals seeking career shifts or reorientation, such as those returning from parental leave. As a career changer, you’ll receive an attractive salary even during your retraining phase and subsequently work alongside your colleagues as an equal team member.
Starting December 1, 2026, we invite applications for the position of Switchman (Weichenwärter) at DB InfraGO AG in Eilenburg, Falkenberg/Elster, Leipzig, Lutherstadt Wittenberg, or Torgau.
Retraining Program
Theoretical instruction is provided at one of our regional training centers, while practical placements will be arranged as close to your residence as feasible.
- The full-time retraining consists of 39 hours per week combining theory and hands-on sessions.
- Training groups comprise 12 participants, where you'll acquire essential skills required for daily work as a Switchman.
Post-Retraining Responsibilities
- Under direction from the train dispatcher, you operate train traffic controls using levers, push buttons, and rotary switches in small and medium signal boxes.
- You are responsible for route inspection, track clearance notifications, clearance verification, train observation, and compliant documentation of operational activities.
- Regular communication and coordination with colleagues in the signal box, train dispatchers, and control centers are key parts of your routine.
- Your duties also include overseeing, regulating railway routes, and track blocking in case of disruptions.
Candidate Profile
- A minimum of a qualified secondary school (Hauptschulabschluss) certificate is required.
- You maintain composure and keep an overview even in demanding conditions.
- Possession of a personal vehicle and willingness to commute near your place of residence.
- Flexibility and readiness for shift work including nights, weekends, and holidays are essential, balanced with your own work-life harmony.
Applications from already trained Switchmen are also welcome.
Our Commitment
We are committed to providing equal opportunities to all candidates with equivalent qualifications. We actively support diversity and teamwork in our workplace, valuing every application regardless of gender, nationality, ethnicity, religion, worldview, disability, age, unemployment duration, or sexual orientation and identity.
Benefits
- Enjoy 16 free train trips annually within Germany, plus additional travel discounts such as the DB job ticket for your daily commute, with affordable options for family and friends.
- Secure a long-term career outlook with a permanent contract at a forward-looking company.
- Up to 34 days of vacation, providing options to take more time off, reduce working hours, or earn more according to your personal preferences.
Diversity and Inclusion
The DB Group firmly values equal participation of severely disabled and entitled persons, and respectful collaboration. Hence, applicants with disabilities or equivalencies will be prioritized if equally qualified.
