Job description
About NavGurukul
Founded in 2016, NavGurukul is a non-profit organization committed to providing students from marginalized communities with access to aspirational careers. We operate fully-funded residential programs in programming, finance, business, education, and design, assisting students in securing meaningful employment. Currently, over 1,200 students study at our eight campuses across India, six of which are exclusively for women, reflecting our deep focus on inclusion. Our alumni community exceeds 1,500 individuals who collectively earn more than ₹50 Crore annually in the technology sector.
Role Overview
Student wellbeing is central to NavGurukul’s educational model, as students live, learn, and eat together on campuses. Their health, belonging, and ability to manage stress profoundly impact their growth and learning. This role involves extensive travel across all eight campuses to build close connections with students and campus teams, designing and implementing wellness systems that are effective, sustainable, and evidence-based. It is a position demanding initiative and autonomy.
Key Responsibilities
- Regularly visit all campuses to assess and address student wellbeing needs through trusted relationships.
- Provide confidential, unbiased listening spaces utilizing non-violent communication techniques to assist students facing emotional difficulties.
- Develop and facilitate peer support circles, reflective sessions, and customized wellness workshops per campus requirements.
- Identify students in distress, including those not openly expressing difficulties, and facilitate access to appropriate resources via clear and accessible pathways.
- Make informed decisions during emotional crises by applying knowledge of legal, medical, and psychosocial factors.
- Train campus mentors and staff to recognize and effectively respond to student wellbeing concerns.
- Collaborate closely with campus leaders to manage complex student situations, offering hands-on support rather than distant advice.
- Create sustaining toolkits, guidelines, and playbooks for campus teams to independently manage wellness systems.
- Develop structured crisis response plans empowering campus teams to act promptly in emergencies.
- Build and nurture relationships with local partners including hospitals, mental health professionals, NGOs, and government bodies, coordinating referral pathways.
- Maintain ongoing engagement with external collaborators to ensure effective campus utilization of resources.
- Implement simple tracking systems to monitor wellbeing trends across campuses and document key insights to enrich institutional knowledge.
- Continuously refine a wellness framework for NavGurukul grounded in practical evidence and field experience.
- Foster community-building initiatives that enhance student connection and belonging.
- Assist students in managing interpersonal conflicts constructively.
- Support campus teams in cultivating inclusive environments celebrating diversity.
Ideal Candidate Profile
You thrive in dynamic environments where you can build peer support groups swiftly, identify subtle signs of student distress, and provide actionable guidance for campus teams. You embrace frequent inter-campus travel and enjoy creating wellness tracking tools, training programs, and workshops simultaneously. You are self-driven, capable of developing your own playbooks, and value systemic impact over individual case support.
This is not suited for those preferring fixed routines, minimal travel, detailed instructions before action, or focusing only on individual student engagement rather than system-wide wellness strategies.
Qualifications and Experience
- Two to three years of professional experience in social work, counselling, community development, public health, education, or student support fields.
- Proven ability to design and facilitate group workshops, sessions, or peer-support programs.
- Empathetic approach to working with youth from marginalized or first-generation backgrounds.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively between campuses, which is essential to the role.
- Background in community psychology, social work, or emotional systems architecture is advantageous.
- Familiarity with mental health first aid, non-violent communication (NVC), or trauma-informed methodologies is beneficial.
Compensation and Work Culture
Salary depends on experience. Travel and accommodation expenses for campus visits are fully covered. NavGurukul fosters a transparent, supportive, and growth-oriented environment with a flat organizational structure and prioritizes the wellbeing of team members alongside students. We embrace diversity and encourage applications from individuals of all identities and life experiences.
