Role Overview

This position is an 18-month fixed-term contract working full-time onsite in Sowton, Exeter. The role focuses on designing precise, clear, and production-ready technical drawings and 3D models for custom electromechanical products, often under strict deadlines. The candidate will use SolidWorks 3D/2D tools and AutoCAD to convert engineering concepts and sketches into detailed drawings suited for manufacturing and assembly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and update complex 3D CAD models in SolidWorks based on engineering input.
  • Create detailed 2D technical drawings supporting fabrication and assembly processes.
  • Prepare comprehensive drawing packages, bills of materials, and supportive documentation for internal and external use.
  • Generate diagrams and technical illustrations for manuals and engineering documents.
  • Keep drawings current through revisions during project progression.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering teams to accurately interpret design concepts into practical manufacturable outputs.
  • Ensure drawings conform to fabrication, assembly constraints, and safety standards.
  • Deliver drawing outputs promptly to meet critical project timelines.
  • Assist with rapid design updates in fast-paced project stages.
  • Analyze client-provided drawings and architectural layouts to incorporate into CAD outputs.
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams and suppliers regarding design details and modifications.
  • Offer hands-on engineering support such as prototype assembly, test fittings, and validation.
  • Uphold company standards for documentation quality, version control, and safety compliance.

Candidate Profile

  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience with SolidWorks, focusing on 3D modeling, weldments, and sheet-metal design.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD for reading client drawings and architectural site plans.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines in a dynamic engineering environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail and excellent communication.
  • Self-motivated, capable of independent work and managing multiple concurrent tasks.
  • Practical engineering experience and hands-on involvement preferred.
  • Knowledge of BIM workflows and document management systems advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Experience in bespoke or entertainment-focused engineering projects is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Annual salary between £32,000 and £38,000 depending on expertise.
  • Participation in company pension scheme.
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Programme.
  • 25 vacation days plus public holidays per year.
  • Company events and uniform provided.
  • Private health insurance and cash plan available post probation.
  • Paid sick leave after probation period.
  • Free parking and refreshments onsite.
  • Standard working hours: Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
