Job description
Role overview
This position is focused on reducing material cost, strengthening the supplier network, and shaping supply chain approaches for materials tied to a specific business unit. The role also carries supervisory responsibility for purchasing team members within the workcell.
Key responsibilities
- Review and forecast component buying prices so inventory value is reflected correctly during the standard costing cycle.
- Partner with the hiring manager on recruitment and selection activities when needed.
- Make sure purchasing team members in the workcell receive the training, tools, and support required to perform effectively, and help build workcell-specific training programs.
- Drive lower material cost across the business.
- Support Jabil supply chain initiatives and contribute ideas that improve existing SCM strategies.
- Expand sourcing alternatives by working with internal teams and customers to add Jabil-preferred or strategic suppliers to the customer’s Approved Manufacturer’s List (AML).
- Re-check and project component pricing as part of standard costing so inventory valuation remains accurate for the financial period.
- Help define quoted customer costs that stay competitive while increasing the benefit from materials price variance (MPV).
- Continuously improve MPV by lowering material cost and limiting unfavorable PPV/MPV; coordinate with the business unit manager to secure customer approval for extra costs such as material premiums, freight, and tooling charged on the customer’s behalf.
- Track supplier performance and share feedback on cost, delivery, and quality.
- Handle materials that are specific to the business unit and/or strategically important.
- Build understanding of suppliers, their capabilities, market trends, and the technologies relevant to assigned commodities.
- Communicate Jabil’s expectations to suppliers and carry out supplier audits, site visits, certifications, and performance reviews to strengthen the supply base.
- Create supply chain strategies tailored to customers or to strategic business-unit materials, and work with the Purchasing Manager and SCM to choose the best path for customer requirements.
- Work with Materials Quote Analysts on pricing for new and existing materials, and re-quote and negotiate often to capture savings opportunities.
- Select suppliers by weighing total value, including price, duty, freight, flexibility, service, performance, quality, and contractual terms.
- Negotiate agreements that protect Jabil and customer interests, including liability terms, special stocking setups, and other non-standard terms and conditions.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must be able to present information clearly and answer questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Should be able to identify problems, gather data, establish facts, and reach logical conclusions.
- Must be comfortable using a personal computer, including Windows-based systems and related software.
- Advanced computer skills are needed, along with knowledge of Jabil software tools.
- Should be able to draft simple written communication and interpret visual aids.
- Must be able to follow simple one- or two-step instructions using practical judgment.
- Should be capable of handling standardized situations with limited variation.
- Must be able to read and understand brief instructions, memos, and correspondence.
- Should be able to perform basic arithmetic using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
- Must be able to calculate rates, ratios, and percentages and interpret graphs.
