Job Summary

The Buyer I position is a full-time term role lasting 22 months, based in Calgary. Reporting to the Manager, Contracts and Sourcing, this role supports operations by managing procurement processes and supplier relationships to ensure the company’s commitments and risks are well controlled.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and administer purchase orders, ensuring commitments are fulfilled and resolving issues promptly.
  • Assist in organizing and overseeing competitive bidding for materials and services, including preparing bid documents, managing the fairness and compliance of the process, evaluating offers, and recommending suppliers.
  • Draft, negotiate, and manage contracts to mitigate risks. Handle contract amendments, changes, and dispute resolution.
  • Build and sustain effective supplier partnerships by identifying and nurturing key suppliers.
  • Engage in initiatives aimed at optimizing procurement processes.
  • Exhibit behaviors aligned with AltaLink’s cultural values: collaboration, continuous improvement, customer focus, and personal responsibility.

Qualifications

  • A university bachelor's degree or college diploma in Business, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or a related field is required.
  • Professional supply chain certifications such as SCMP or NISCL are advantageous or progress towards such designations is desirable.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in procurement or supply chain management.
  • Demonstrated competence in key responsibilities described above.
  • Experience in the electrical utilities sector is considered an asset.
  • Proficient interpersonal, communication, and presentation abilities.
  • Familiarity with computer systems like SAP and Oracle is beneficial.
  • Understanding of contractual legal terms and strong negotiation skills.
  • Capability to handle multiple complex tasks efficiently with strong organizational and time management aptitude.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective teamwork and customer engagement.
  • A dependable attendance and performance record.
