Role overview
This position is focused on electrical procurement for mining and heavy industrial equipment. The buyer will support sourcing activities for equipment and components used in filter presses, crushers, conveyors, feeders, screens, thickeners, and material handling systems, while ensuring commercial value, technical fit, and delivery reliability.
Key responsibilities
- Source electrical parts for mining and material handling equipment, including motors, drives, PLCs, MCC panels, switchgear, cables, sensors, limit switches, encoders, lighting, and instrumentation.
- Review electrical drawings, GA drawings, bills of materials, and technical specifications shared by design and project teams.
- Issue RFQs, evaluate suppliers on technical and commercial grounds, negotiate terms, and close purchase orders.
- Build and maintain approved supplier lists for electrical products used in harsh mining environments.
- Ensure sourcing and procurement activities follow IEC, IS, IEEE, and mining safety requirements.
- Work closely with planning and production teams to align procurement with project and manufacturing timelines.
- Monitor order progress, follow up on deliveries, and address quality or schedule-related issues.
- Support cost reduction, localization, and alternate sourcing efforts while maintaining product reliability.
- Keep procurement records updated, maintain ERP data, and prepare MIS reports.
- Support audit activities and follow internal procurement policies and procedures.
Candidate profile
The role calls for a professional with strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems and project-based buying in mining, heavy engineering, EPC, or bulk material handling environments. Experience with UL-certified components and suppliers is important, along with familiarity in handling manufacturing BOM-driven procurement.
