Job description

Role overview

The Butler is responsible for delivering a polished, highly personalized in-suite guest experience. This role sits within the Guest Relations team and acts as the main connection point between guests and the Hotel and Marine departments, with a focus on anticipating needs before they are requested. Success in this position depends on excellent hospitality, communication, organization, sound judgment, and close attention to detail. The Butler is fully accountable for the quality of each assigned guest’s experience, including the condition, presentation, and overall feel of the suite, as well as the delivery of every amenity to a consistently high standard.

Qualifications

  • This is a shipboard position.
  • At least 2 years of guest-facing service experience in a luxury setting is required.
  • Strong, clear, and courteous spoken English is necessary for guest interaction.
  • A confident, well-presented appearance with a friendly and welcoming manner is expected.
  • High emotional intelligence is essential, along with practical conflict-resolution ability and familiarity with food and beverage service.
  • Candidates must be able to read and write in English to follow procedures, exchange instructions, and communicate clearly in both written and verbal form.

Key responsibilities

  • Make sure Retreat guests are comfortable and well informed about their suite, available amenities, ship services, ports of call, concierge support, and Retreat privileges.
  • Serve as the guest’s primary contact and advocate to support smooth coordination across departments.
  • Review and taste-test services and food items before guest use to confirm they meet the highest standards.
  • Promote service excellence and help raise standards across the Retreat program.
  • Work with other Retreat teams to share guest preferences and relevant information that improve the experience across venues.
