Job description
Role Overview
This role calls for a seasoned business management professional to assume end-to-end control of contract variation activities on a major EPC project. You will coordinate with all contractor-side project functions to spot potential variations, build supporting documentation, negotiate with the client, and secure approvals that help protect project margins while reducing commercial risk.
The position is best suited to someone with strong hands-on experience in EPC contracts, particularly variation and business-related work gained with well-known international EPC contractors.
Core Responsibilities
- Own the full variation lifecycle, from early identification and justification through submission, negotiation, and final settlement with the client.
- Review EPC contract terms in detail to determine valid grounds for variation, including scope changes, unforeseen site conditions, and client-initiated changes.
- Prepare thoroughly supported variation claims and time extension submissions in line with contractual procedures.
- Work with project controls, engineering, and construction teams to measure the schedule and cost impact of each variation accurately.
- Act as the main point of contact and lead negotiator for all variation-related discussions with the client.
- Produce regular, detailed updates for senior project and company leadership covering the status of variations, exposure areas, and possible opportunities.
- Coach and support commercial team members on effective variation management practices.
Required Background
- British passport holders are strongly preferred because of project-specific requirements.
- Applicants should have business or variation experience gained with a recognised international EPC contractor such as TechnipFMC, McDermott, or Saipem.
- A proven history of managing variations on large, complex offshore EPC projects in the oil and gas industry is essential.
- Experience with major international operators such as Saudi Aramco, QatarEnergy, Total, or British Petroleum is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of international contracting frameworks such as FIDIC, as well as bespoke EPC contract structures, is required.
- The ideal candidate should bring excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical ability, and be confident, proactive, and focused on outcomes.
Engagement Terms
This is a third-party staffing arrangement. The selected employee will sign an employment contract through an HR agency and will deliver services to COOEC.
Closing Note
The organisation welcomes candidates who can bring valuable perspective, strong technical judgment, and practical expertise to the team.
