Where you'll work
Job description
Role overview
As the Business Finance Specialist for the Marketplace commercial function, you will act as the finance partner to the Marketplace GM and work closely with Commercial, Finance, Strategy, Product, and Marketing teams. Your focus will be on improving decision-making around restaurant partners, users, and commercial performance. This role is for someone who enjoys being involved where business decisions are made, challenging assumptions with data, and shaping the financial narrative before results are discussed at leadership level.
Key responsibilities
You will work as the financial co-pilot for the Marketplace GM, contribute to weekly commercial steering discussions, support strategy conversations, and participate in key decision forums. The role owns the Marketplace P&L end to end, including GMV, category margins, contribution margin, and the journey to bottom-line performance.
You will collaborate with Category Managers on category strategy, assortment decisions, supplier negotiations, and joint business plans that influence growth. You will also challenge commercial assumptions when the data points elsewhere and support your position with clear analysis.
Another core part of the role is translating complex P&L movements into concise, one-page business stories that leadership can use to act quickly. You will lead the financial assessment of new initiatives such as category launches, new partners, supplier agreements, exclusivity arrangements, and growth investments, using ROI, payback, and risk analysis.
You will also help shape promotional strategy with Commercial by modelling discount impact, basket behaviour, category margin effects, and the mix between supplier-funded and company-funded promotions. In addition, you will identify risks and opportunities in the Marketplace P&L ahead of actual results and recommend corrective action.
The role includes building and maintaining BI dashboards and data foundations that bring commercial performance to life, converting raw and messy data into practical scorecards and self-service insights for the GM and leadership team.
What you should bring
The ideal candidate has a strong base in FP&A, commercial finance, or business partnering, and is known for being the finance person commercial leaders want involved early. You should understand revenue models, unit economics, take rate, category margin, and supplier economics, and know how to identify the lever that affects each outcome.
Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills are essential, along with comfort handling large and complex datasets. You should also be able to turn numbers into a compelling story and communicate with confidence at GM and senior leadership level.
The role calls for someone who is constructive yet willing to challenge assumptions when the data supports a different conclusion. You should also thrive in fast-moving, ambiguous, high-growth environments where structure is built along the way.
Preferred background
A minimum of 7 years of experience in FP&A, commercial finance, or business finance is preferred, ideally within q-commerce, grocery, retail, marketplaces, e-commerce, or similar technology-enabled consumer businesses. Prior partnership with Commercial or Category Management leaders is especially valuable.
Hands-on experience with category and supplier economics, pricing, promotional mechanics, and supplier-funded models will be an advantage. Familiarity with planning platforms such as TM1 or IBM Planning Analytics, as well as BI tools like Power BI or Tableau, is also desirable. Professional qualifications such as CMA, CFA, ACCA, or CPA, whether completed or in progress, are considered a plus.
