About MBM

MBM is a well-known media agency in New Zealand and a distinctive challenger brand. The team focuses on going beyond conventional media planning by using connected, data-informed thinking to solve real business challenges. Following a recent client win, MBM is hiring a Business Director to take charge from the outset.

The Opportunity

This is a senior leadership position with significant influence. You will own an important client portfolio, guide strategy, improve commercial performance, and lead a strong team to produce work that creates measurable business impact. The emphasis is on expansion and momentum rather than account maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set the strategic direction for a group of clients and ensure they consistently receive high-quality thinking.
  • Convert a new client relationship into a durable, high-value partnership.
  • Identify and develop opportunities to grow revenue across the portfolio.
  • Manage the commercial side of the business, recognising issues early and taking corrective action.
  • Coordinate specialists across MBM to deliver integrated, end-to-end solutions.
  • Confidently present and champion the agency’s ideas both internally and in front of clients.

What Success Looks Like

This position exists because MBM has secured new business. The priority is to build early traction, demonstrate value quickly, and expand the opportunity over time.

About You

You should already be working at a senior level and be comfortable guiding both clients and teams. The role suits someone who is commercially minded, strategic, and confident shaping outcomes across a broad media ecosystem.

  • 7–10 years of experience in media, preferably within an agency environment.
  • A strong commercial mindset, not just a tactical one.
  • Ability to lead planning across paid, owned, data, and creative channels.
  • Confidence in building trusted relationships with senior clients and challenging them when needed.
  • Experience managing people, developing capability, and raising team performance.
  • A curious approach and a preference for better solutions over familiar routines.
