Job description

About Halter

Halter is building technology that helps farmers and graziers run operations that are both more productive and more sustainable. Its customers use the platform to move away from time-heavy traditional farming methods and unlock a simpler way of managing livestock. The company is focused on solving hard problems, creating real impact, and helping transform an entire industry.

The team is driven by meaningful work, high standards, and a fast-moving culture. Halter is supported by top-tier investors including Founders Fund, Bessemer Venture Partners, BOND, DCVC, Blackbird, Promus Ventures, Rocket Lab’s Peter Beck, and Icehouse Ventures.

About the Role

This fixed-term Business Development Executive position is responsible for growing Halter’s presence across Northern Otago while supporting customer success in the dairy sector. The role is hands-on and field-based, with a strong focus on sales execution, relationship building, and hitting ambitious growth goals.

You will act as Halter’s local representative in the region, spending time with farmers, understanding their challenges, and showing how the technology can create value for each operation. The role involves close collaboration with Product, Support, and regional sales colleagues so that feedback from the field helps improve the solution and the overall customer experience.

This is a 12-month fixed-term role that requires daily travel throughout the Northern Otago region to meet farmers on site.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Meeting farmers on-farm to understand their needs, explain the product clearly, and connect the solution to the value it can bring to their business.
  • Identifying and developing a strong pipeline of suitable farms, while shortening the sales cycle wherever possible.
  • Handling inbound and newly sourced leads through the early stages of the sales process, including screening and qualification.
  • Using industry connections to strengthen Halter’s presence and reputation in the market.
  • Supporting monthly and quarterly revenue forecasting with the Business Development Manager.
  • Helping improve and refine the sales process so it becomes quicker, more efficient, and easier to predict as the business grows.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong motivation to help farmers succeed, ideally backed by experience in farming systems or the agricultural sector.
  • A proven sales mindset with a track record of winning new business and managing the full sales journey from lead generation through to close.
  • Energy, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude.
  • The ability to stay resilient, solve problems, and work well as part of a team.
  • A determined, never-give-up approach to sales and growth.
  • Comfort working with a high level of independence in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Ambition to learn quickly and grow alongside a high-performing sales team.

Why Join Halter

  • Work on something that has a genuine positive impact on farmers, their families, and the sustainability of the land they manage.
  • Be part of a team of smart, kind, and driven people who enjoy tackling difficult problems.
  • Enjoy autonomy, ongoing learning, and personal development, including access to a $1,000 personal growth fund.
  • Join a company that moves quickly, takes bold risks, and is committed to reshaping a major industry.
