Role Overview

The Business Development Director is accountable for spearheading and managing the business development endeavors within the Australia and New Zealand region. This role is critical for cultivating a robust and profitable pipeline of product and service ventures, encompassing in-licensing, acquisitions, and strategic partnerships that align with the company's therapeutic focus and commercial objectives.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Initiate and lead licensing new assets, company acquisitions, and form strategic alliances within the Asia Pacific region targeting unlicensed and commercial opportunities.
  • Identify and evaluate potential new assets, molecules, or compounds aligned with company strategy through various sourcing channels.
  • Establish and nurture productive relationships with partner companies, maintaining a clear understanding of their challenges and goals.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to conduct due diligence and research for potential projects.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of regulatory, healthcare, pharmaceutical, and reimbursement frameworks in the agreed territories.
  • Develop strategic plans with cross-functional teams including regulatory, supply chain, marketing, and sales divisions.
  • Drive contract negotiation processes and ensure effective closure maximizing return on investment.
  • Act as the central liaison for projects with partners and internal stakeholders, facilitating knowledge transfer and project commercialisation.
  • Support acquisition initiatives and manage ongoing communications with line management regarding project progress.
  • Prepare and lead business development presentations and meetings, documenting outcomes and sharing information across teams.
  • Explore and establish new business opportunities both with existing clients and potential partners in the ANZ region to enhance ROI.
  • Build and maintain senior-level relationships with pharmaceutical organizations, societies, and networks to facilitate business growth.
  • Attend partner meetings and participate in product training sessions as necessary.
  • Present firm and persuasive business cases in negotiations and foster alliances with key opinion leaders and patient advocacy groups to optimize business proposals.
  • Stay current on trends and industry developments in unlicensed medicines, regulatory changes, and competitive landscape, ensuring these insights benefit the group’s strategic positioning.
  • Comply fully with all company standard operating procedures, pharmacovigilance requirements, and Good Clinical Practice regulations, promoting a culture of quality and safety.
  • Maintain meticulous administrative records, including filing, CRM data entries, reporting, and correspondence to support efficient project execution.
  • Be prepared for international travel obligations estimated at 10-20% annually.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Proven success in pharmaceutical business development with a history of closing mid to large licensing agreements.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Economics, Management, Science, or similar, complemented by in-country commercial experience preferred.
  • Consistent track record of surpassing sales and profitability goals.
  • Demonstrated capability in establishing strategic partnerships and business collaborations.
  • Strong skills in influencing and negotiating across organizational levels.
  • Experience with Medicines Access Programs is a plus.
  • Familiarity with product funding processes and legal agreements related to partnerships is advantageous.
  • Interest or experience in haematology, oncology, and rare disease domains is favorable.
  • Must be flexible, adaptive, self-driven, and capable of managing multiple stakeholder relationships.
  • Willingness and ability to travel nationally and internationally as required.
