Job description

Role overview

This short-term summer graduate assignment is for a Business Analyst based in the Cheltenham office. The placement runs for 6 to 8 weeks, is full-time, and should begin as soon as possible. The role pays £120 to £175 per day through an umbrella arrangement.

The purpose of the position is to support Group IT initiatives by helping teams examine information, define business needs, secure stakeholder approvals, and strengthen the quality of data used in delivery.

Key accountabilities

  • Carry out precise analysis, produce clear requirement notes, and complete assigned work within deadlines.
  • Reach out to stakeholders across the organisation to move tasks forward when needed.
  • Spot irregularities in processes, data sets, or decisions and raise them to the project team.
  • Make recommendations within the agreed scope and escalate risks, dependencies, and approval matters to project leads.

Core responsibilities

  • Partner with project, data, and operational teams to understand goals, scope, and information requirements.
  • Review, verify, and tidy data sets, while identifying missing data, duplicates, and quality concerns.
  • Gather, record, and rank business requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Create straightforward process maps, data summaries, issue logs, and action trackers.
  • Organise stakeholder reviews, collect feedback, and monitor approvals and sign-offs.
  • Support meetings, status updates, and follow-up actions across multiple teams.
  • Escalate risks, blockers, and dependencies quickly to the appropriate lead.

Success measures

  • Analysis and data-cleansing tasks are completed on schedule.
  • Requirements, decisions, and approvals are documented clearly.
  • Stakeholder feedback is captured and follow-up actions are tracked through to completion.
  • Risks, blockers, and data-quality issues are raised without delay.
  • Colleagues and project leads give positive feedback that the work has added value.

Experience and background

This opportunity is suitable for a graduate or student with an interest in business analysis, data, technology, or project delivery. Experience with Excel for organising, analysing, or cleaning data is important. It is also helpful to have experience collecting information, summarising findings, and working collaboratively. Exposure to projects, process improvement, or stakeholder engagement would be an advantage. Background in IT, manufacturing, or engineering is useful but not required.

Qualifications, skills, and competencies

  • A degree, or progress toward a degree, in Business, IT, Data, Engineering, or a related subject.
  • Strong analytical thinking with a sharp eye for detail and data accuracy.
  • Clear communication skills with the confidence to ask focused questions and summarise needs.
  • Good Excel ability; familiarity with Power BI, SQL, or data visualisation tools is helpful.
  • Well organised, proactive, and comfortable balancing several teams and priorities.
  • Able to record decisions, actions, and approvals in a clear and structured way.
  • Collaborative, inquisitive, and open to learning business analysis techniques.
