Job description
Role Overview
This position focuses on transforming data and stakeholder insights into actionable decisions to enhance organizational performance. Reporting to the CFO, you will collaborate with various company leaders to develop financial models, reporting systems, and business performance management processes that ensure clear visibility and swift action on critical business matters. We seek a candidate who is analytical, practical, inquisitive, and adept at handling complex datasets, ambiguous challenges, and impactful decisions.
About Better Impact
Our mission centers on enhancing volunteerism to build stronger communities. Better Impact delivers software solutions that assist nonprofits, governmental bodies, healthcare entities, and corporations in recruiting, scheduling, engaging, and tracking volunteers and their contributions. We empower volunteer program managers with technology, benchmarks, and a collaborative community to optimize their efforts.
Presently, our platforms support over 85,000 organizations and millions of volunteers, capturing more than 600 million volunteer hours across multiple sectors including nonprofit, public, healthcare, and corporate. Our vision is to see volunteerism valued, supported, and recognized everywhere.
As a growing private-equity-backed company, we are embedding finance and analytics as engines for company-wide value creation. This role is central to that effort.
The Opportunity
Better Impact is fortifying its finance and analytics capabilities during scale-up. This entails refining data quality, enhancing financial models, clarifying reports, mastering unit economics, and strengthening performance management across teams. You will work closely with the CFO to build a robust foundation and convert it into effective decision support for leaders across finance, go-to-market, customer experience, and operations functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Create comprehensive business case analyses, financial models, and analytical frameworks supporting decisions on pricing, retention, growth, margins, cash flow, and operational efficiency.
- Design and maintain driver-based financial and operational models linking budgets, goals, outcomes, and levers to profit-and-loss and cash flow, enabling performance tracking and impact verification.
- Develop the analytical data infrastructure by collaborating with data and systems teams and cross-functional partners to organize, reconcile, and transform diverse data sources into dependable inputs for models, reporting, and insights.
- Work cross-functionally to translate strategic priorities into measurable objectives, operational plans, and actions, partnering with finance and operations leaders to drive change and monitor progress.
- Build business intelligence and reporting tools that provide leadership with timely, transparent views of key performance indicators such as ARR growth, cash management, profitability, and unit economics.
- Establish repeatable processes for gathering inputs from various teams and systems, creating clear, actionable outputs with defined owners, workflows, timelines, and accountability.
- Leverage modern technologies, automation, and AI to minimize manual tasks, enhance analyses, and uncover efficiency improvements.
Qualifications and Skills
- Demonstrated expertise in advanced Excel and financial modeling, constructing complex, driver-based models from unstructured data.
- Strong data management capabilities including extraction, cleaning, mapping, transforming, and reconciling data from various systems, proficient in both spreadsheet and advanced tools.
- In-depth understanding of SaaS unit economics concepts such as LTV/CAC, ARR, NRR, GRR, cohort retention, payback periods, margin, and cash flow, and their influence on growth and decision-making.
- Proficient in business intelligence tools and methodologies, including Power BI, to develop reports that drive informed leadership decisions.
- Experience applying automation or AI-driven workflows to streamline manual processes, improve data accuracy, and speed up analysis while maintaining security and feasibility.
- Ability to operate confidently amidst ambiguity and imperfect data by actively cleaning, structuring, and integrating information rather than waiting for ideal inputs.
- Preferred experience with SaaS enterprise platforms like HubSpot, Maxio, Xero, QuickBooks, ScaleXP, Stripe, NetSuite or comparable finance, billing, CRM, ERP, and reporting systems.
- Hands-on knowledge of tools such as Excel/Power Query, SQL, data warehouses, and business intelligence solutions used to organize and facilitate access to financial and operational data.
Benefits
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance available after 90 days.
- 401(k) retirement plan eligibility after 90 days.
- Unlimited vacation policy complemented by nine paid holidays annually.
- Paid parental leave.
- Competitive compensation package.
