Job description

Role overview

Cuscal has spent more than 60 years helping make everyday payments work smoothly for Australians, from pioneering early ATM services to supporting real-time payments through the NPP. The business is now looking for a Business Analyst focused on payments to help shape and deliver complex solutions across cards and real-time payment platforms.

In this role, you will work with product, technology and client stakeholders to shape requirements, lead discovery, and turn business needs into practical outcomes that create value for customers and clients.

What you will do

  • Convert business needs into well-structured user stories with clear acceptance criteria.
  • Create detailed delivery artefacts such as process maps, impact assessments and gap analyses.
  • Support refinement sessions and contribute to solution design with delivery teams.
  • Assist with data validation, reconciliation and migration tasks.
  • Work across product, engineering and external client groups to align outcomes.

Experience and technical background

This position suits an experienced business analyst with strong payments knowledge who is comfortable operating in complex enterprise settings.

  • Demonstrated background in card switch processing.
  • Practical knowledge of AS2805 and ISO8583 messaging.
  • Experience configuring debit, credit and prepaid card products.
  • Good understanding of dual message processing flows.
  • Familiarity with card networks such as Visa, Mastercard and eftpos, including scheme compliance requirements.
  • Experience working with the New Payments Platform (NPP).
  • Knowledge of PayID, PayTo, CoP and PACS messaging.
  • Exposure to SWIFT messaging standards.
  • Strong capability in requirements elicitation and documentation.
  • Experience producing process maps, gap analyses and technical specifications.
  • Ability to facilitate workshops and build stakeholder alignment.
  • Proven experience partnering with technical teams in agile environments.
  • Strong data analysis skills, including SQL and Oracle.

Nice-to-have exposure

  • Experience with digital wallets and tokenisation.
  • Exposure to financial crime or fraud systems within cards or NPP environments.
