Business Analyst – Energy Transition

Job Summary

This role supports energy transition work across solar integration, distributed energy resources (DER), and grid modernisation initiatives. The position focuses on understanding business needs, mapping processes, and turning data into actionable insights that help deliver safe, efficient, and dependable energy systems.

What You’ll Be Working On

• Assess how renewable generation affects grid stability and customer operations.
• Create dashboards and reports for different stakeholder groups.
• Run workshops, requirement discussions, and solution review sessions.
• Help ensure solutions align with regulatory and technical expectations.

Business Analysis & Requirements Gathering

• Partner with stakeholders such as utilities, regulators, solar providers, and technical specialists to collect and document requirements.
• Convert energy-market and regulatory needs into clear functional specifications.
• Prepare current-state and future-state process models for energy transition initiatives.

Support for Energy Transition Programs

• Contribute to solar integration initiatives, including rooftop solar and DER onboarding.
• Assist with flexible export solutions that adjust export limits based on available grid capacity.
• Support emergency backstop mechanisms designed to protect the grid during stress conditions.

Data Analysis & Reporting

• Review datasets related to energy use, solar exports, and grid performance.
• Produce insights on export restrictions, curtailment events, and network capacity usage.

Stakeholder Management

• Work with internal and external parties, including DNSPs, energy regulators, compliance teams, solar installers, and aggregators.

Process Improvement & Solution Design

• Identify ways to improve energy system performance and the overall customer experience.
• Support the design of DER integration platforms, grid management systems, and demand response or export control solutions.

Testing & Implementation

• Assist with user acceptance testing for energy platforms and digital systems.
• Check system behaviour for flexible export limits and emergency backstop trigger scenarios.

Required Skills & Competencies

• Strong capability in business analysis, including requirement capture, process mapping, and documentation.
• Background in energy utilities, renewable energy, or grid operations.
• Understanding of solar PV systems, DER, flexible export frameworks, and grid protection or emergency backstop schemes.
• Ability to analyse data using Excel, SQL, Power BI, or similar tools.
• Awareness of regulatory frameworks in energy markets.
• Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.
