Job description
Role Overview
This position entails a broad spectrum of Information & Information Technology (I&IT) business analysis services tailored for clients inhabiting diverse business and technology landscapes. The analyst works closely with business stakeholders and subject matter experts to elicit, document, and analyze business needs and requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead comprehensive business analysis to assess clients' business challenges and opportunities, crafting clear documentation that informs I&IT solution development.
- Engage with re-engineering initiatives to identify and promote enhancements through alternative, cost-efficient service delivery models.
- Conduct business analysis aligned with organizational methodologies including OPS Unified Project Management, Enterprise Architecture, and Standard Systems Development methodologies, adjusting granularity according to project phases.
- Develop strategic business documentation such as business cases, cost-benefit analyses, and feasibility studies for I&IT initiatives.
- Design requirement elicitation methods including Joint Application Design (JAD) sessions, interviews, and mockups.
- Perform business modeling activities covering use case modeling, conceptual and logical data structures, process and data flow diagrams, business rules, and non-functional requirements.
- Track project progress, resolve issues, and maintain communication with management and stakeholders.
- Create performance measurement tools and traceability matrices to assess business analysis effectiveness and enable follow-up procedures.
- Maintain stakeholder engagement through structured documentation, presentations, and briefing notes.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of two years experience specifically as an IT Business Analyst (excluding QA and Project Lead roles).
- Proven involvement with the software lifecycle including structured, object-oriented, and agile methods for capturing user requirements.
- Capability to develop and utilize performance measurement methods to evaluate business analysis work.
- Excellent analytical thinking, problem-solving aptitude, decision-making skills, and strong verbal and written communication.
- Competency in interpersonal relations and negotiation, with a strong collaborative team orientation and record of meeting deadlines.
- Familiarity with Computer Aided Software Engineering (CASE) tools for documentation and project scoping.
Preferred Attributes
- Experience using information retrieval software.
- Knowledge of Information Management principles, policies, and best practices.
- Ability to translate business and data needs into technical specifications for suitable technology solutions.
- Familiarity with various business analysis techniques including functional and event modeling and business process mapping.
- Understanding of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and related compliance standards.
Location and Work Arrangement
This role is based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, with a hybrid work model requiring 2 to 3 days onsite as determined by the hiring manager.
