Overview
The Region of Peel, encompassing Brampton, Mississauga, and Caledon, is seeking a Building Monitor for a contract full-time position lasting 13 months. Located at 200 Missinnihe Way, Mississauga, ON, this role operates onsite with standard hours of 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, plus additional on-call shifts during evenings and weekends. The salary range for this position is $58,034 to $65,289 annually.
Role Summary
This Building Monitor position, reporting to the Property Manager within Peel Housing Corporation's Human Services department, is responsible for ensuring the safety, functionality, and healthy condition of the building. This includes monitoring mechanical systems, security, and general maintenance to support a secure working environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct daily walkthroughs inspecting mechanical rooms, cleanliness, boiler, generator, fire systems, and underground garages.
- Maintain compactor room and waste disposal areas, including litter collection.
- Act as primary contact and oversee janitorial staff, summer students, and security personnel during daily and evening shifts.
- Patrol the premises to identify hazards, unsafe conditions, mechanical faults, security concerns, unlocked doors, or unauthorized individuals using appropriate equipment and protective gear.
- Manage inventory by ordering and stocking janitorial, superintendent, and common area supplies.
- Perform minor repair and maintenance tasks such as plumbing, painting, carpentry, glue removal, light bulb replacement, and air filter changes.
- Operate and support the building's Access Control System as directed.
- Grant contractor access for maintenance activities according to operational plans.
- Inspect parking lots and vehicles and monitor CCTV systems for equipment failures.
- Provide access for visitors and community groups for after-hours meetings.
- Arm and disarm security systems and closely monitor building usage.
- Assist in orienting new staff members as needed.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of one year of experience in related roles.
- Basic understanding of building procedures, Building Code, and Ontario Fire Code.
- Good judgment and adherence to policies, guidelines, and supervisory directives.
- Professional demeanor, appearance, and communication skills to interact with the public effectively.
- Knowledge of safety standards and emergency procedures relevant to the role.
- Ability to perform physical tasks associated with the position.
- Familiarity with Residential Tenancies Act and Housing Services Act and experience in social housing environments are advantageous but not mandatory.
