Job description

Role Overview

Cache County is looking for a Building Inspector at level I, II, or III to support safe residential construction across the county. In this full-time, benefits-eligible onsite position based in Logan, Utah, you will help ensure that homes and related structures comply with the International Residential Code (IRC) and applicable local building standards while keeping the permit process moving efficiently. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

What You’ll Do

Your work will focus on inspecting residential projects such as homes, additions, sheds, and other outbuildings. You will also verify zoning and site-related items, including setbacks, review plan packages, record clear code-related corrections, and assist with the county permitting workflow from intake to permit issuance using permit software.

Daily Work Environment

A typical day begins by reviewing your inspection calendar and permit notes in the system, then traveling to active construction sites throughout the county. You will split your time between field inspections and office-based documentation, respond to questions from contractors and homeowners, and help keep permits progressing in a steady public-sector environment. Some interactions may require tact and firmness when work does not meet code, so consistency and composure are important. You will also work with planning staff and other reviewers as projects transition from plan review into construction.

Required Background

This role is best suited to an experienced construction professional who understands residential building standards, has practical inspection and plan review experience, and is comfortable working in a plans-examiner-style mindset. Strong communication skills, careful attention to detail, and familiarity with zoning, site requirements, and county permitting are important.

Total Rewards and Benefits

Cache County offers a competitive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision coverage; 401(k); Utah Retirement System; life insurance; a health savings account (HSA); a flexible spending account (FSA); paid time off; employee assistance program (EAP); and safety incentives.

Pay Range

Compensation is based on experience and the level hired into: Building Inspector I: $28.27–$32.22 per hour; Building Inspector II: $30.30–$34.54 per hour; Building Inspector III: $33.56–$38.26 per hour.

About the Employer
