Job description
Role overview
Gloucestershire County Council is looking for a Brokerage Officer to help secure suitable homes for children in care. The role covers placement finding across foster families, residential settings, and supported accommodation for older young people.
Key responsibilities
You will work as part of a placement-finding team and take responsibility for a defined area such as residential care. The post involves reviewing child profiles, coordinating with social workers and providers to identify suitable matches, and keeping accurate records and case paperwork up to date. You will also join a duty rota to support urgent same-day placement searches and work closely with the council’s in-house fostering service.
Working pattern and team setup
This is a busy role that requires strong time management and the ability to work effectively to tight deadlines. The team works collaboratively, supported by admin staff and a contract monitoring team. Communication is maintained through daily Microsoft Teams calls and an active Teams chat stream. Monthly team meetings are also held. Office attendance is typically one to two days per week, though daily office working is also possible. The base is Shire Hall, and core hours are 9:00am to 5:00pm to support service needs.
Additional information
This position involves access to confidential information relating to children, so appointment is subject to an enhanced DBS check and a check of local GCC records. The council is unable to offer sponsorship for this role. Applicants must already have the right to work in a way that allows for at least 6 months of employment, and right to work cannot be transferred from a sponsored post with another employer. Candidates currently on Gloucestershire County Council’s redeployment register or at risk of redundancy will be considered first at shortlisting stage. A customer-facing appointment must also meet the legal requirement to demonstrate fluent spoken English under the Immigration Act 2016.
About the organisation
Gloucestershire County Council offers hybrid working in many roles, balancing service requirements with individual flexibility. The council aims to provide an inclusive, supportive workplace where staff can do their best work and support the diverse communities of Gloucestershire.
Benefits
Successful applicants can expect flexible and agile working arrangements, 25.5 days of annual leave rising to 30.5 days after 5 years of continuous service, and the option to buy up to 10 extra days of leave each year (pro rata for part-time staff). Additional support includes family-friendly policies, career development and qualification opportunities, regular supervision, the Local Government Pension Scheme, a confidential Employee Assistance Programme available 24/7 by phone and online, in-house occupational health support, an employee discount scheme, Cycle to Work, the Gloucestershire Salary Sacrifice Green Car Scheme, and access to employee networks including Prism (LGBT+) and the Young Employees Network.
