Job description
Job overview
This role is responsible for steering the assigned branch through careful planning, efficient use of resources, and consistent delivery of business goals. The objective is to improve market share and brand strength while keeping costs under control.
Branch context and key challenges
The position operates in a competitive environment where the branch leader must drive performance despite market practices that may not always be ethical. A major challenge is retaining high-performing sales staff in the face of strong competition. It is also important to ensure the quality of newly recruited advisors, even though every new joiner cannot be individually monitored closely. Another challenge is helping new advisors gain the right product and process knowledge, especially when training attendance is low.
Key responsibilities
- Create and execute sales plans to meet branch targets for advisor count, advisor productivity, new premium business, and business persistency.
- Study market conditions, competition, and growth opportunities, then plan branch action in consultation with head office.
- Build the right product mix, identify potential customers, run contests, and ensure investment advice is delivered effectively.
- Implement plans on the ground and track progress closely to support business success.
- Improve field-force productivity through active people management and regular advisor development.
- Conduct ongoing training for advisors and keep them updated with the latest company inputs.
- Review advisor progress on competition, activisation, and club membership, and discuss promotional support provided by the company.
- Encourage strong work habits, drive productivity improvement initiatives, and arrange specialised training as needed.
- Protect business persistency through random quality checks on sourced business.
- Ensure timely and effective post-sales service to help retain customers.
- Maintain financial discipline in the branch by controlling cash handling and keeping both capital and operating expenses within budget.
- Enforce process adherence and maintain full compliance across the branch.
- Keep the sales and operations teams informed about changes in underwriting rules, IRDA guidelines, and sales processes.
- Plan and roll out sales and recruitment promotions, working with head office teams on central initiatives.
- Ensure current and prospective customers receive adequate promotional engagement.
- Observe customer reactions to products, services, processes, and staff, and suggest improvements that enhance efficiency and satisfaction.
- Oversee branch administration so daily operations remain smooth and cost effective.
- Lead the team through continuous coaching, skill-building, mentoring, and supervision.
- Provide both on-the-job and classroom learning opportunities for team development.
- Use job rotation periodically to broaden team exposure across branch functions.
Candidate profile
The ideal candidate should be able to lead a sales-driven branch, manage teams, enforce compliance, control costs, and improve productivity through training, review, and process discipline. The role also calls for strong coordination with head office and an ability to drive performance in a competitive market.
