Job description

Role Overview

AHADI's Analytics team is seeking a Biostatistician/Geostatistician to join us in Nairobi. This full-time role involves comprehensive statistical and geospatial analyses of various public health data types and mentoring junior staff. The ideal candidate is proactive in problem-solving, possesses strong coding expertise, and communicates effectively both orally and in writing. As part of AHADI's collaborative environment, you will contribute towards building tools and models that enhance public health decision-making in regions with significant disease burdens.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage, and analyze diverse health datasets including epidemiological, clinical trial, environmental, and financial data using software primarily in R and/or Python.
  • Select and apply appropriate quantitative, statistical, and geospatial methods tailored to specific analytical challenges.
  • Create clear reports and presentations to communicate technical findings to stakeholders such as ministries of health and partners.
  • Provide training and guidance to junior analysts and support adoption of best practices in reproducible software development.
  • Collaborate with partners to build local capacity in public health analytics.
  • Contribute to multiple projects across data analysis pipelines including teaching and co-instructing in training programs.
  • Support preparation of manuscripts for peer-reviewed academic publications.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Doctorate degree in biostatistics, geographic information systems (GIS), or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Proven expertise in managing and analyzing public health or epidemiological data.
  • Proficiency in statistical analyses such as tests and regression models.
  • Experience building geospatial, predictive, Bayesian, or machine learning models.
  • Kenyan citizenship or valid residency permit with the ability to work onsite in Nairobi.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with survey, routine surveillance, and raster datasets.
  • Experience creating dashboards and advanced data visualizations.
  • Knowledgeable in responsible AI-assisted coding practices.
  • Background in teaching or supervising technical staff at undergraduate or master's level.
  • History of collaboration with public health departments or ministries of health.
  • Publication record in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

Competencies

  • Fluent professional English communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Strong data manipulation and visualization capabilities including map production.
  • Ability to adapt communication and mentorship styles to diverse audiences.
  • Capable of balancing independent work with collaborative team efforts in remote and distributed settings.
  • Willingness to occasionally work extended hours to meet project deadlines.
  • Positive leadership fostering growth and development of junior team members.
