Job description

Role overview

BnM is seeking a Biomass Operative for its Edenderry site in County Meath, Ireland. This position sits within the Biomass Team and focuses on the safe, efficient handling of biomass deliveries to Edenderry Power. The work covers stockpiling, blending, feeding material to the intake hopper, reporting intake-related issues to the EPL control room, and clearing screened-out material back to the stockpile area.

The role may also involve operating the weighbridge and ensuring that all biomass deliveries are logged accurately in the inventory system. Key records include supplier details, product information, sustainability data, weights, and bucket numbers. In addition, the role requires smooth processing of incoming deliveries, clear direction to hauliers on where to deliver, prompt handling of queries, and maintaining constructive working relationships with suppliers. Where needed, the incumbent may also share feedback with management on supplier performance concerns.

Core duties

  • Operate machinery safely and confidently, including wheeled loading shovels in active site conditions where constant attention to safety is essential.
  • Use tracked excavators to work on stockpiles and handle material in a controlled and safe manner.
  • Operate tractors and ejector trailers as part of site operations.
  • Run weighbridge processes, manage incoming goods and dockets, and keep traffic moving efficiently on site.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to delivery-related queries.
  • Coordinate with colleagues regarding vehicle movements so traffic is directed to the correct location.
  • Step in to support other on-site staff when required.
  • Maintain awareness of biomass quality expectations for power plant use, including cleanliness, foreign material control, product size, and moisture levels.
  • Remain flexible with working hours, which may include night shifts.
  • Follow all health, safety, and welfare procedures established for employees, contractors, and members of the public on site.
  • Take an active part in performance management processes and contribute to meeting individual and team targets.

Candidate profile

The company is looking for someone with at least 5 years of experience in a comparable position and a solid understanding of biomass supply operations. Strong communication ability is essential, along with a high level of competence in wheeled loader and tracked excavator operation. Experience with record keeping and document control is also important.

Previous exposure to biomass operations at Edenderry Power would be a strong advantage. Knowledge of the renewable energy sector or forestry biomass would be highly beneficial.
