Role overview

South Derbyshire District Council is seeking an experienced and driven Benefits Officer to support the Benefits team in delivering an accurate, responsive Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction service for residents.

What the role involves

In this position, you will use your strong understanding of benefit regulations to review Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction claims, ensuring decisions are made correctly, efficiently, and in line with legislation, case law, and local rules. You will also help manage Housing Benefit overpayment recovery where needed.

The role includes dealing with customer questions, offering general guidance to landlords, and liaising with both internal teams and external organisations as part of day-to-day service delivery.

What you need to know

Applicants should have a thorough knowledge of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction rules, along with practical experience using MRI Revenues and Benefits processing software to handle cases accurately and within required timescales.

A DBS check is required for this post.

Working arrangements

This role offers a flexible working setup, with the option to work from home, from the office, or a combination of both. Once training has been completed, working hours are flexible, supporting a healthy balance between work and personal life.
