Job description
Role overview
Thiess is looking for an experienced blast bench crew member to support site safety and blasting activities at Pembroke Resource’s Olive Downs Complex in the Bowen Basin. The position sits within a five-year contract covering mine planning, overburden removal, drill and blast, autonomous load and haul, water management, rehabilitation, and mine infrastructure construction.
What you will do
- Support the safe and efficient delivery of blasting activities
- Perform blast hole dipping
- Set out and mark the blast area
- Dipping and recording of blast holes
- Prime, load, and tag blast holes under the direction of the Shotfirer in Charge
- Operate supporting equipment such as a stemming truck, loader, and bobcat
- Carry out blast guarding duties
- Help unload and load raw material deliveries into on-site storage or MPUs
What we are looking for
The right candidate will be a team-oriented and high-performing person who works well in a fast-moving environment. You should be able to build effective working relationships, communicate across different stakeholders, and contribute fairly and consistently to team goals. A background in blast crew work is required, and coal mining experience is an advantage.
- Previous experience working in a blast crew is required
- A current driver’s licence and Standard 11 are essential
- Ability to obtain, or current possession of, a Queensland Explosives Security Clearance
- Coal mining experience will be viewed favourably
- Ability to operate a loader, bobcat, and stemming truck is desirable
Working pattern and job conditions
- Roster is 7/7, with even-time scheduling
- 12-hour day shifts
- Night shifts may be required and will attract an extra shift rate
- This is a permanent full-time position
- Flexible arrangements may be available, including Live Local or DIDO
