Job description

Position Overview

The City of Bonn is looking to fill a Baumkontrolleur*in role in the city forestry unit as soon as possible within the Office for Environment and Urban Greenery. The position is assigned to the Planning, Construction and Forestry division and is compensated at pay grade 7 under the TVöD.

Bonn is home to more than 347,000 residents and, through around 300 employees in the city greenery department, manages and maintains roughly 1,400 hectares of green spaces to support quality of life. This includes parks, other public green areas along roads and municipal buildings, playgrounds, 40 cemeteries, and the forest area. The assignment is mainly carried out in the city forest, which covers about 620 hectares.

What the Role Involves

The core task is the professionally qualified visual inspection of trees for traffic safety in line with the FLL tree inspection guideline. The role also includes collecting basic tree data and entering tree information into the municipal tree register. Inspections are conducted in tree groups along public forest paths and near development bordering the city forest.

The work requires a dependable, independent, and self-directed approach.

Required Background

Applicants should have completed training as a forester or as a specialist agronomist in tree care. In addition, certification as a tree inspector or European Tree Worker is required. Relevant experience in tree inspection and a Class B driving licence are also expected.

What We Expect

The role calls for physical fitness, commercial awareness, and a collaborative, reliable, and committed working style. Since the work takes place entirely in public spaces, a courteous and citizen-friendly manner is essential.

Employment Details and Equality Notes

This is a full-time position, although part-time arrangements are also possible. Under the state equal opportunities legislation and the City of Bonn’s equality plan, female applicants will be given preference in case of equal suitability, competence, and professional performance, unless reasons relating to another applicant outweigh this.

The City of Bonn is committed to reflecting the diversity of the population in its administration and actively promotes equal opportunity and diversity. The organisation aims to provide an open workplace with equal chances regardless of ethnic, cultural, or social background, age, disability, religion, or sexual and gender identity. Applicants with a migration history are especially encouraged to apply, and applications from people with disabilities are welcome.

Benefits

The city offers work that serves the public good and a secure, future-oriented workplace. Employees also benefit from a modern personnel development concept with extensive training opportunities, a company health management programme, and attractive additional pension provision. Regular pay rises under the collective agreement are also part of the package.

For staff on permanent contracts after probation, bicycle leasing may be available. In addition, the city partners with Urban Sports to provide access to a wide range of sport and wellness options, and employees can take advantage of discounts through benefits.me across leisure, shopping, travel, and more.
