SolidFlow batteries store energy in organic molecules. Because they do not rely on explosive materials, they are considered safer. They also use raw materials that are socially and environmentally conflict-free, while the near-unlimited availability of the materials makes them scalable and cost-effective to source.
CMBlu Energy is evolving from a research-focused startup into a manufacturing scale-up preparing for serial production. Around 250 people work across the organization. The headquarters are in Alzenau near Frankfurt, with another site in Obernburg. The company also has subsidiaries in Athens, Greece, and Petaluma, USA.
Your mission
The company is looking for a highly motivated Battery Material Engineer to join the R&D team within the Posolyte team. The main focus of the role is to synthesize, improve and characterize inorganic solid capacity booster materials for next-generation solid flow batteries.
The position calls for a strong background in electrochemistry and materials science, along with practical experience in battery material development.
Responsibilities
- Develop, synthesize and refine inorganic solid booster materials for advanced solid flow battery systems.
- Create synthesis routes that can be scaled and assess material performance in both laboratory and prototype settings.
- Carry out advanced physicochemical and electrochemical analyses such as XRD, SEM, TEM, BET, CV and EIS.
- Study structure-property links to enhance stability, conductivity and overall material performance.
- Work closely with teams across electrochemistry, chemistry and scale-up functions.
- Help integrate materials into full-cell systems and evaluate performance data.
Requirements
- Master’s degree or PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience developing battery materials in academic or industrial environments.
- Strong knowledge of inorganic material synthesis and characterization methods.
- Practical experience with electrochemical testing techniques such as CV, EIS or galvanostatic cycling.
- Ability to work independently in a structured way, with strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
- Good communication skills in English and enthusiasm for working across disciplines.
